Perfect Festive Scenting

I really wasn’t feeling too Christmassy until  last week. I ventured into our local town centre to watch the lights being switched on, but it wasn’t  the lights that make me feel festive – it was the scent of wood burners and warm mulled wine emanating from the adjoining Christmas fayre.

And really, one of the best things about the festive season has to be its scent. Christmas has such a distinct aroma, from gingerbread and frosty vanilla, to the traditional scent of cloves and cinnamon.  You don’t have to roast chestnuts daily to achieve the same effect; take a look at our guide to Christmas scenting and ensure your home smells warm and comforting for the entire season.

Crabtree & Evelyn Noel Home Fragrance Oil
If you want a more versatile way to scent your home, using fragranced oil like this one from Crabtree & Evelyn is just the thing. Oils are traditionally burned in oil rings or oil burners, which when heated will release its aroma of the oil into the air. This oil can be used to top up the scent of your pot pourri, or even to anoint cotton balls to be placed around the room.

Acqua Di Parma Room Spray Spicy
Acqua Di Parma home fragrances are the epitome of sophistication. I’m a big fan of Spicy Accord, which marries notes of voluptuous rose and jasmine with a festive note of clove. This spray is actually suitable all year round thanks to the subtly of the spiciness, but I like to save it for around this time of year spritz fabrics and curtains.

Roger & Gallet Ginger Soap Set
Instead of drawer liners, try popping a scented soap in your sock drawer for an added touch of festive warmth. Each Roger & Gallet Ginger Soap is infused with the scent of ginger flower, ginger absolute, ambrette and benzoin which makes your fabrics smell wonderful. After the festive season, use the soaps as part of your bathing routine for ultra soft skin.

Annick Goutal Noel Scented Candle
Made up of pine, citrus and spicy notes, this limited edition candle from Annick Goutal is released just once a year, and always appears in a different design. This year’s offering boasts a Christmas tree made up of gilded butterflies, ensuring it looks as good as it smells. Light it up and let the Christmassy aroma permeate the room.

Crabtree & Evelyn Winter Garden Home Fragrance Reed Diffuser
For maximum scent with minimal effort, a diffuser is the way to go. This one from Crabtree & Evelyn features their newly-introduced Winter Garden fragrance, a tart green scent with just a touch of sweetness. Pop the reeds into the domed glass bottle, and the fragrance will soak through them and disperse into the air – best of all, it lasts for three months!
