Team Escentual’s Favourite Scents

Team Escentual's Favourite Fragrances

Lots of people I know have favourite scents, fragrances that they feel are perfectly suited to them, however this has never really happened for me. Working for a beauty website definitely has its perks and I’m the first to admit I exploit them fully. If I could wear a different scent everyday I probably would, but obviously everyone is different and I was intrigued to see if that was the case with my fellow colleagues. Do they have one fragrance that they go back to time and time again or do they prefer to mix it up a little bit? Read further and I shall tell you all about Team Escentual’s favourite scents….

I have a lot of fragrance, though I rarely buy the same one twice. That accolade is reserved for my special inner circle of scents: Yves Saint Laurent Elle, Yves Saint Laurent Body Kouros and Stella McCartney Stella. I’ve owned everything from Britney Spears (!) to Serge Lutens, yet I always come back to these three fragrances without fail.

I was first introduced to Yves Saint Laurent Body Kouros Eau de Toilette by a boy friend in high school. Back then I could only identify it as a nice smell, but now I know that I was drawn to it because of my penchant for incense. I’ve bought a bottle every couple of years for almost 10 years. Yves Saint Laurent Elle Eau de Parfum was the definitive scent of my uni years; it’s the scent of moving house more times than I could count, meeting new friends and landing my first job out of university. Stella McCartney Stella Eau de Parfum is one that’s very close to my heart, as it reminds me of one of my very favourite people.

Every scent in my fragrance collection has a special memory attached to it, but these three have been such a big part of my life for so long that I know I’ll always keep a little bottle of each, even if I fall out of love with wearing them!

I am a ‘special case’ in the world of fragrance…I cannot smell anything! I rely on the ‘good’ advice and hopefully expert opinion of my colleagues in work to choose my ideal scent. The main stalwart of my collection is HUGO BOSS BOSS BOTTLED Eau de Toilette. I like the look of the bottle and I only ever receive compliments so this can only be a good thing. A few of my friends have even bought some themselves! Now if only I knew what it smelt like…

Before starting here I found navigating the myriad possibilities for fragrances almost impossible. However since I now work for a company where I can try a great many different scents it has been a pleasure to explore which fragrances I couldn’t live without. In my explorations one fragrance has stood head and shoulders above the rest, DIOR Fahrenheit Eau de Toilette. This fragrance is incredibly unique and instantly satisfying to the senses as soon as it comes in contact with the skin. It is not a fragrance that strikes others like a physical blow whenever you walk past but is a far more refined and sophisticated scent that purrs rather than roars. The top notes of Mandarin do not make it in any way fruity on the whole and the combination of notes give a musky, sensual, lightly spiced scent that other fragrances really should aspire to. Having found this glorious fragrance around six months ago I have not looked back and doubt I would ever consider losing it’s dusky allure.

Paco Rabanne BlackXS L’Exces Eau de Toilette Intensefor me is the only fragrance I will wear for summer and the months leading up to it. It’s long lasting and very fruity and makes me feel like I should be outside soaking up the sunshine. In these cold sunny days it takes the chill out of my bones and makes me ache for warmer climates.

Now if you’ve read any of the blogs I’ve contributed to, you might know I’m a fan of anything ‘intense’. However, I still find it hard when people ask me what my favourite scent is, because there’s just so many to choose from! Obviously Dior Homme Intense Eau de Parfum is up there with the best of them and there is nothing quite like it. Once you get past the initial make up smell, it develops into a powdery musk which lasts forever on my skin. But I’m also a fan of Etat Libre d’Orange Delicious Closet Queen Eau de Parfum, because of the raw iris, leather and musk. It makes for a great combination and dries down well on my skin. As for the name… well what can I say? The title says it all!

As I said earlier, if I could wear a different fragrance every day, I quite possibly would! However I do have a couple of fragrances that I go back to time and time again, the first is Narciso Rodriguez For Her Eau de Toilette. This fragrance is the only scent that I’ve been faithful to for more than a year and I absolutely love it. It has a soft femininity that isn’t overpowering, but just enough! My most recent love is Givenchy Dahlia Noir Eau de Toilette. A fruity floral with a difference, it has a dry down of Vanilla and Tonkin Musk which settles beautifully on my skin. Projection is great and it also lasts for hours on my skin which is a definite plus.

  • Great to see other’s ‘go to’ fragrances! Mine are Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille-Cannelle & their Vanille-Mokha for the winter, E. Coudray’s Vanille-Ambre, and Etat Libre d’Orange’s Tilda Swinton Like This. For the summer I love Narciso Rodriguez For Her & D&G Sicily. I always have a selection of scents on the go as it all depends on the weather & my mood on the day!
