How to match your make-up to your clothes

Hooray! The sun’s out. Doesn’t it feel amazing? Everything looks bright and beautiful in sunlight, and you can’t help but feel good.

A change in the weather always inspires me to refresh my beauty routine. Chilly days and dark winter nights are all about staying home and pampering yourself, but the sunshine inspires me to get out there and look good.

Along with the sunshine’s arrival, I was thrilled to receive a bunch of beauty goodies from the latest Michael Kors make-up collection. Designer Michael Kors is a true fashion mastermind. His collections are drenched in glamour yet have a cool, luxe-sport feel that makes them irresistible. His make-up and perfume is just as fabulous, with fashion-forward colours, gorgeous scents and ultra-glam gold packaging.

So I got straight on the phone to my MiC buddy Rosie Fortescue and arranged a girly get-together. Rosie is a real fashion expert, so I thought we could combine my make-up knowhow and her style sense to come up with some gorgeous ideas and advice. Let’s get started:

Michael Kors Sporty Citrus Eau de Perfume Spray
Binky: Talk about capturing the moment! This fresh citrus scent smells like spring sunshine in a bottle. It has orange and mandarin top notes that really zing, making it the perfect fresh, daytime fragrance. There’s also a hint of orange-flower, as well as rich patchouli and musk, all of which add warmth and sensuality for evening. This is a great day-to-night perfume and would work with any look from sporty to sexy.

Michael Kors – Glam Bronzing Powder in Beam
Binky: Well, I don’t need to tell you guys how much I love bronzer – and this is one of the best. Its luminous deep copper shade complements most skin tones, providing a rich and healthy-looking tan. Buff the smooth powder onto the cheekbones for a sculpted look, and blend across the forehead, bridge of the nose and décolletage for an all-over glow.

Rosie: Even pale-skinned girls like me benefit from a touch of bronzer. I blend just a hint onto the cheekbones for a healthy daytime glow when I’m working this season’s sporty style, and I use it to add all-over colour by night. When you’re wearing a fabulous gown, dusting all over with bronzer gives your skin a really sexy shimmer.

Rosie: I love wearing a really dark lip colour like this in the evening. I’d pair it with simple eyes to let the gloss really dazzle. You can even work these dark shades on summer days, paired with a simple face and a glam, grown-up style. I’d go for a white silk shirt, tailored trousers and this deep flash of colour on my lips. Gorgeous!

Michael Kors – Sexy Lip Luster in Siren
Binky: This rich pinky-red lip colour is just too sexy – hence the name! It has a subtle mauve shimmer that really adds to the luxurious glossy effect. Another great day-to-night product, I’d use this by day for subtle sheen of colour, worn with classic jeans and a white tee. By night, all you’d have to do is swap your sneakers for heels and layer up this gloss into a bold, bright pout – and you’re good to go!

Rosie: The colour of this lipstick might look subtle but the name has other ideas! Yes, you could slick it on by day for a hint of sparkle, but I’d wear it at night with a little black dress and dark smokey eyes. Because the lip shade is neutral you could add a bright clutch or statement high heels without looking too drenched in colour.

Rosie: Nail varnish is a great way to add an instant pop of colour to any outfit – not to mention an affordable way to experiment with this season’s trend for strong paintbox brights. This pinky-red varnish is a sexy evening shade. Team with piles of gold jewellery for a bling glamour look.

Rosie: I adore dark nail colours like this one. I’d pair this with a matching dark look and keep everything else chic and simple. Great by day, even better by night – this shade should be a staple in every girl’s make-up kit.

Rosie: I love this super-bright nail shade. I’d wear this with a neutral-coloured outfit in soft nudes or beiges. It’s great to have an unexpected flash of hot colour when the rest of your look is quite demure – it adds a sexy surprise to a subtle look.

Binky: White nails are set to be a big summer trend. A shade like this is elegant and subtle so will work for day paired with a smart white shirt and blazer. It also emphasises your tan brilliantly and looks amazing in the evening – thanks to its neutral hue, you can add dazzling, colourful accessories without fear of a colour clash.

Each one of these Michael Kors products is set to be a winner this summer, and while designer cosmetics may set you back a little more than high-street brands, they’re well worth the investment thanks to the really strong, rich colour pigments and the long-lasting formulas.

We’re off to paint our nails, gloss our lips and go out for lunch. The sun’s shining, and Binky and Rosie are hitting the town!
