DKNY Be Desired Review

DKNY Be Desired Close

Ceryn Signature

It’s been over 10 years since the iconic DKNY Be Delicious franchise began. The apple-shaped bottles and sweet-smelling scents have become a fragrance collection spritzed and savoured by many. And, if you thought this iconic range was concluding any time soon, you can think again – there’s a new scent in town and it’s safe to say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…

Flanker to the original Be Delicious range, DKNY Be Desired Eau de Parfum is the latest fragrance launch from DKNY. Not worlds apart from its older sibling, Be Desired features all the core elements of the Be Delicious fragrance, but with a new floral infusion. Think of Be Desired as a greener, softer Be Delicious, the fruity character is still present but it’s subtle. There’s an air of mystery around its aroma and it’s what I can only describe as, profoundly hypnotic.

DKNY Be Delicious was one of my first scents.  Its distinctly sweet aroma reminds me of my teenage years; my first school disco, my first kiss. It was a time where everything was new and exciting. It’s been a while since I last reminisced about its apple-laced aroma, I had almost forgotten how much I missed its sweetness!

I can say that I have always been a fan of fruity aromas, there’s something about their tantalising sweetness that appeases my pick-a-mix loving heart. But, as I’ve grown-up I’ve realised that less is more and I don’t always find myself gravitating towards the most intense, citrus aromas (whereas my young teen self would have doused herself in them).

That’s where Be Desired comes in. I feel as if Be Desired is a more mature Be Delicious, as if it has grown up with me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still young and fresh with a bubbly attitude, but it’s got a wonderfully sophisticated edge.

DKNY say that Be Desired is for a modern Eve, a woman that takes bold risks and isn’t afraid of speaking her mind. Its advert sees a man and woman escaping the busy city and discovering a secret garden, an idyllic place of beauty hidden in the chaos of New York. With one spritz of this aroma you can imagine why they chose this story of escapism to accompany the scent. Its lush, desirable composition makes you forget about everything else, drawing you in deeper and deeper until you’re captured in a trance by its beauty. Nothing else matters, you are alone with its notes and they’re seducing your senses and whispering sweet nothings in your ear.

DKNY Be Desired sweeps you off your feet from the word go, opening with sparkling notes of orange oil, tart blackcurrant and violet leaves. In the heart things are taken up a notch with an injection of grapefruit, which gives the fragrance an aura of energy. This lively beginning is closely followed with the exotic aroma of jasmine sambac and Turkish rose, which also give the composition its new, floral direction. The scent’s base also sets it apart from its predecessor, with woody nuances of cedar wood and amber wood giving the Eau de Parfum a creamy, sensual feel.

It’s not often that I think a scent could be right for so many different people. I could imagine myself wearing this, but also my mum and my nan. With its varying facets and mysterious personality it will appeal to a wide variety of people. And, don’t be put off by thoughts that this is surely a spring/summer fragrance. It’s quite the opposite! The blend of citrus, floral and woody notes make it an aroma that makes sense in every season.
