The Inspiration

Created with Supermodel, Natalia Vodianova, the Guerlain Shalimar Christmas collection is inspired by, yes you guessed it, the Guerlain Shalimar fragrance. After 8 years of being the face of the iconic fragrance, Natalia wanted to pay tribute to the Shalimar story with a makeup collection that embraced the riches of Imperial India.

Face

Guerlain Shalimar Christmas Makeup Look 2016 - Face
For me, the base of my makeup is everything. I don’t mind spending a little extra time perfecting my skin and enhancing my best features to really make the most of my look. If, like me, you’re also all about skin then you’ll be spoilt for choice, as this collection has three limited edition products for the face.

After applying foundation and concealer I reached for the iconic Meteorites Perles de Legende. Now dressed in blue and gold packaging, the light-reflecting blue, gold and pink pearls within are great for correcting uneven skin tone and dark circles. I dusted my brush around in the sweet-smelling pearls and applied a little under the eyes and along the cheeks for an instant boost of radiance.

The theme of radiance continued as I applied the Precious Light Illuminator in Pearly Pink to my cheekbones, brow bone, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow. This peach-toned highlighter gives the skin a subtle pink iridescence that draws attention to the high points of the face.

Lastly, I applied the Terracotta Terra India Shimmering Bronzing Powder to warm up my complexion and define the contours of my face. I followed the instructions of Guerlain’s Creative Director, Olivier Echaudemaison, by drawing a 3 each side of the face, from the forehead to the cheeks, then to the jawbone to add supermodel structure.

Eyes

Guerlain Shalimar Christmas Makeup Look 2016 - Eyes

The first thing I noticed about Natalia Vodianova in this campaign were her eyes. Framed with shimmering gold hues and flashes of midnight blue they are completely entrancing. Usually, I steer clear of blue eyeshadow in fear of it looking a little garish. Luckily for us, this is no ordinary blue! On the skin it transpires into an almost purple tone that adds beautiful depth.

To begin this eye look I swept some of the Terracotta Terra India Bronzer through my crease to add dimension and warmth. Next, I applied the metallic gold shade of the Ecrin Shalimar Eyeshadow Palette all over my lid and to the inner corner of my eye, before adding the blue to the outer corner and lower lash line. Using a blue eyeshadow can be daunting, so I recommend adding a little and building/blending gradually to avoid over-doing it. The result: a smokey eye with a twist that will make a beautiful statement.

To finalise the eye look I traced my upper lash line with the L’Or Eyeliner, and even added a little to the end of my lashes. This sparkling gold felt liner framed my eyes even further and to my surprise didn’t look too intense. Instead, the parameter of my eyes subtly glistened in the light.

Lips

Guerlain Shalimar Christmas Makeup Look 2016 - Lips

I don’t think there’s anyone that wouldn’t feel like a million dollars applying this lipstick. The jewel-adorned packaging has a built-in mirror that makes on the go application super easy and of course, super chic. Of the two lipsticks in this collection I chose the Rouge G in Rouge Saphir for this look (I’m a sucker for packaging and a ruby red), as I think its deep tone perfectly complements the blues and golds on the eyes. The creamy texture glides on with ease and the lasting power is impeccable, which is golden coming from me as I’m always eating, drinking or talking my lipstick off.

To apply, I firstly traced my lip line with The Lip Liner High Precision Liner in Rouge Dahlia to lock down my shape and stop any bleeding. Next, I glided the smooth lipstick all over my lips for an instant pop of colour. If you like a creamy lipstick, which I do as my lips tend to be quite dry, then leave as is. But if creamy isn’t for you, blot away the excess for more of a matte look.

Body and Hair

Guerlain Shalimar Christmas Makeup Look 2016 - Body

This is the type of beauty product you don’t know you need until it’s in your hand. The Souffle d’Or de Shalimar is a perfumed iridescent body and hair powder that’s infused with a soft Shalimar Souffle de Parfum scent and beautiful shimmer. Trust me when I say you’ll never want to stop spritzing this (I didn’t), it made me feel like a 50’s film star with every puff.

For this look I popped a little in my hair, so every swish gave a waft of enchanting scent. Whether you keep it for best or to add a touch of luxury to the everyday, Souffle d’Or de Shalimar will be the shining star of your beauty stash!
