When the Harajuku Lovers fragrances burst onto the scene in 2008, Gwen Stefani injected an almighty dose of something that had been slightly lacking in the fragrance world: unbridled, girly fun. The quirky design of the flacons made the set of scents an instant classic, and as such were bought as much for the pretty little doll stoppers as they were for their ultra-feminine scents.
2010 sees the reincarnation of the original five girls – Love, Lil’ Angel, Music, Baby and G – each with a new attitude, a new look, and a brand new scent. Each fragrance is formulated by an entirely different perfumer, giving each girl a distinct personality and fragrance style. These girls go by the name Wicked Style, and are inspired by the unique Harajuku street scene that makes major style waves in Tokyo.
Love is a cute and romantic girl with bright purple hair and a Sweet Lolita style. Her sweetness is carried through to her scent, with bursts of Nectarine, Mangoseen and Juicy Pear at its opening, a nostalgic floral heart of Orange Flower, Lotus and Violet, and a sweetly sensual base of Musk, Sandalwood and Praline.
Lil’ Angelis a brooding Gothic Lolita girl with bright magenta hair, dark make-up and a penchant for the mysterious. Her mischievous nature is evident in her scent, with top notes of Plum, Champagne and Pomelo, a crystalline heart of Lotus, Queen Rose and Waterlilies and a darker base of Woods, Ambers and Musks.
Musicis a melodious fuschia-haired girl with a Visual Kei look that is inspired by the crazy style of Japanese music stars. Her dynamic scent is both floral and woody, with an opening of Apple and Bergamot, a swirling heart of Jasmine, Gardenia, Fuschia and Peony, and a resonating base of Cedarwood, Musk and Amber.
Baby is a sweet little thing with pastel pink hair, a bright and fun Kawaii style, and masses of colourful accessories. Adorable and feminine, her scent is a fruity-vanilla cocktail of White Peach, Apple and Freesia at its top, Pink Plumeria, Orchid and Jasmine at its heart, and Amber, Musk and Sandalwood at its base.
Gis a distinctive girl with an individual Omotesando look. Her bright yellow hair and vintage fashion is a perfect mixture of colour and style, as is her fruity fragrance. G sparkles with a top of crisp Granny Smith Apple and juicy Peach and Pineapple, a sweet heart of Watermelon and Peony, and a delicate base of Raspberry, Musk and Water Aqueous.

Harajuku Lovers Wicked Style Baby EDT Spray 30ml
I decided to treat myself to this fragrance after seeing it on the Escentual website. I had previously bought one of the fragrances from the Harajuku Lovers range, and simply loved the limited edition bottle, as well as the smell. This time I opted for 'Baby', and I was very impressed with how quickly it was received, as it was delivered the day after I placed the order. I think the loveliest aspect of the fragrance is the eyecatching bottle it comes in, as the lid is actually a miniature harajuku doll, which makes it extra special, and is a great collectible long after the bottle is empty. Now onto the fragrance itself. I found a little goes a long way with this perfume, as it has a strong scent, which is floral and fruity. It is less subtle than the fragrances I usually choose, but nontheless I liked it and I will definitely use it. I also ordered an extra bottle, as it's so nicely presented it will make an ideal gift for a friend or female family member. Final verdict: A fresh, summery fragrance that comes in irresistible girly packaging. A lovely indulgent treat for yourself or a friend, with the added advantage of a cute keepsake doll.
