Spring Clean Beauty Regime

April already? How did that happen? This year is whizzing by – not that I’m complaining, you understand, as I adore it when the clocks leap forward, the daffodils start pushing their way through the soil, and the sweet scent of cut grass fills the air on a Sunday afternoon.

If you have the urge for a little spring-cleaning, put down the feather duster and turn your attention instead to your skincare regime. Not only is it more enjoyable, but you will be rewarded with clear, glowing, even-toned skin for the season ahead!

1. TREAT YOURSELF TO A GROWN-UP CLEANSER
Cleanser is one of those products that we’re all wary of changing. We find one that we like and we stick to it – which was precisely the reason I was still using a cleanser aimed at teenage skin in my mid-twenties. Thankfully, I saw the light and switched to a product far better suited to my – now quite dry and sensitive – complexion. Take it from me, switching to a cleanser that suits your skin will dramatically improve the condition and appearance of your skin.

Cleansing water suits almost all skin types – it’s gentle, yet removes every trace of makeup and grime. I use it every morning and evening on a cotton wool pad and it has left my skin feeling calm, hydrated and looking clearer than ever. Try Caudalie Cleansing Water, £13.46.

2. MAKE A HABIT OF EXFOLIATING
Not exfoliating? Now is the time to start. Not only does it feel – and often smell – great, but a twice-weekly scrub also ensures that dead skin cells that have accumulated are swept away. If you allow those cells to build up, the pores are likely to block – and the result is dull, lacklustre skin and possible breakouts.

I like my beauty products to feel, smell, and look great – and Trilogy’s Gentle Facial Exfoliant, £21.50, ticks all those boxes. It contains Jojoba Wax Beads to gently buff skin and a blend of Camellia, Rosehip, and Macadamia Oils to rehydrate and leave the complexion glowing.

3. INVEST IN MOISTURISER WITH SPF
If there’s one piece of beauty advice you take from me (and I know I hand out a lot of it), please let it be to invest in a moisturising cream that contains at least SPF 15 (preferably higher). This will give your skin 24/7 protection against the sun’s damaging rays (one of the most prominent causes of premature skin ageing).

I wouldn’t dream of wearing a moisturiser without SPF – and I was horrified when I found out that my husband was using one without it (I know, I probably need to lie down in a dark room for a while). I love 3LAB Hydra Day Water Based SPF20, £49.71, which contains broad-spectrum protection. It’s perfect for all skin types and leaves skin feeling supple, calm, and hydrated.

4. USE A NIGHT TREATMENT
Finally, add a product to your skincare regime that is specifically designed for use at night. Skin regenerates three times faster at night than during the day (peaking during the hours of 2am and 4am) so creams and serums that promise to maximise this process are well worth the effort and expense.

I rarely lay my head down on the pillow without smothering a nourishing night cream onto my skin – and one of my favourites is Caudalie Vinoperfect Night Correcting Cream, £33.41. It promises to brighten skin and fade pigmentation – and on waking up, skin is quite literally radiant. That’s a winner in my books!

  • A lovely selection of products. This is definitely the kind of Spring clean I could get along with! I just finished a tube of the Trilogy gentle scrub and I agree that’s lovely to use particularly because of the delicious smell. I have the Caudalie day cream from Vinoperfect range and I’m hoping for success with tackling my pigmentation problem.
