Soft and Casual Hair for Spring

Soft, casual, touchable hairstyles are big news for Spring Summer 2012 – and we have designers including Emanuel Ungaro, Erdem, Burberry Prorsum and Christopher Kane to thank for the trend.

It might seem like an easy look to pull off – after all, it’s supposed to look natural, right? But to perfect the trend, you need to work on adding texture to locks to add movement and create a cascade of natural-looking waves.

Daunted? Don’t be – it’s easy to achieve if you have the right products to hand! Follow my step-by-step guide below…
SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Hair needs to be soft, hydrated, and in great condition for this look – so start by investing in a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. I love Philip Kingsley’s Moisture Extreme Shampoo, from £4.85, which helps to remove product build up without removing any of the hair’s natural oils, and Philip Kingsley Moisture Extreme Conditioner, from £6.20, which boosts condition and shine. After washing and conditioning hair, towel dry for a few minutes to get rid of excess moisture.

SALT SPRAY
Before blow-drying, spritz salt spray through hair to create gentle, natural-looking waves. TIGI Catwalk Session Series Salt Spray, £11.10, is ideal. It contains sea salt to mattify the hair, increase body, and control frizz. You can expect a tousled, artfully disheveled mane, which still looks groomed and pretty. If you’re on a beach holiday, of course, you can leave the spray at home and let the sea do the hard work!

TEXTURISER
Blow-dry your hair with a diffuser to create natural-looking waves – and when it’s 80% dry, work a texturising cream or balm through locks, before finishing the blow-dry. TIGI Bed Head Candy Fixation Mega Whip Marshmallow Hair Texturizer, £10, works very well for this trend. It helps to separate hair, add layer definition, and boost volume. If your hair is long, concentrate on the mid-lengths and ends, which will avoid build-up on your roots. And as an added bonus, it smells amazing too!

SHINE SPRAY
Finally, add an enviable shine to your locks with an application of shine spray. My weapon of choice is Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist, £17, which delivers an even veil of shine all over the hair. Hold the can roughly 10 inches away from your hair and spray generously!
