Binky Felstead’s Beauty Blog.. Brown-Eyed Girl

Hi guys. Welcome to the gorgeous world of Binky’s Beauty Blog!

My holidays are over (boo!) and now that series 4 of MiC has started filming I am one busy girl. Beauty-wise, that means there’s no time for experimenting with radical new looks so right now I’m all about the classics – flattering, wearable make-up ideas that will work every time.

My number-one make-up classic has to be the smokey eye. It’s a timeless sexy effect that countless celebrated beauties, from Marlene Dietrich to Keira Knightly have worn over the years – and if it works for silver-screen goddesses like them, then it works for me!

That said, there’s no harm in giving classic looks a modern spin – which is just what i’ve been doing this week. While the traditional smokey eye is done in dusty shades of charcoal grey and black, this season’s on-trend update is to rework the smokey eye in warm, chocolatey shades of brown.

The brown smokey eye was a big hit at the autumn 2012 catwalk shows, where it was spotted everywhere from Loewe to Louis Vuitton, and Burberry to Blumarine – there’s a great shot here from that show of the ultimate Chelsea girl Cara Delavigne sporting the smokey.

Burberry did my favourite interpretation – the models looked totally stunning (again Cara on the catwalk), with flawless skin and natural lips, so the focus was entirely on the eyes. Warm, earthy brown eyeshadow, in a matt finish, smudged underneath the eyes and taken up across the lids. The dark-chocolate shade was strongest around the eyes, with the colour softening as it reached up towards the brows. The effect was beautiful.

To recreate the catwalk look I’ve discovered the perfect eye-colour compact: the Too Faced Matte Eyeshadow collection  and there’s also the Too Faced Smoky Eye Palette.

It includes a soft taupe shadow and a richer mocha shade, which combine to give the perfect smokey brown eye. Plus, the great thing about this eyeshadow palette is that it comes with brilliant how-to cards, ensuring you achieve a really expert finish.

Complete the look with lashings of mascara. Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara in Wonder Brown is just right. It adds volume and length, and makes my lashes look lush!

The smokey brown eye is an absolute dream for brunettes like me, as it really suits my colouring. And best of all, this is a 24/7 look. Unlike the traditional black smokey eye, which is an evening classic, smokey brown eyes can be worn day and night since brown shades have an easier, more natural feel. So I can just make-up and go.

From Made in Chelsea to clubbing in Chelsea, smokey brown eyes work every time!
