Create an At-Home Spa

Oh I love the autumn! The chill in the air, the chance to hide away in sheepskin boots and cashmere cardigans, and the smell of bonfire in the night sky… Most of all, however, I love the excuse to run a warm bath as soon as the baby is asleep, plunge into the water, and stay there until the water starts to cool and my fingers get wrinkly.

Being a parent has made it trickier to hide away in luxury spas, but the bathroom is my alternative – and this week, I have selected the products that I want on my bathroom shelf when I close the door, turn the lock, and enjoy some much-needed ‘me time’.

STEP ONE – LET THERE BE LIGHT
Spas use a plethora of flickering scented candles to create the perfect ambience and luxe scent – so why not do the same in your bathroom? My current favourite is Daniel Sandler In Love Home Candle, £30, which is packed with warm, comforting notes including Sandalwood, Vanilla, Clove, Cardamom, and Black Pepper.

STEP TWO – MOUNTAINS OF BUBBLES
The more bubbles, the better – so pour a foaming bath product generously under a warm running tap. For silky smooth skin, a subtle but warming scent, and the fluffiest bubbles, I recommend L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Foaming Bath, £20.

STEP THREE – THE SILKIEST SKIN
Love the way your skin feels after a pampering body scrub and wrap? Recreate the effect by treating skin to an exfoliating salt scrub, followed by and a moisture-infusing cleansing oil (in place of shower gel), such as Caudalie Crushed Cabernet Scrub, £18.25, and L’Occitane Almond Foaming Shower Oil, £16.50.

STEP FOUR – TREAT YOUR HAIR
While you’re wallowing under the bubbles, why not treat your hair? This is the perfect time to delve your hand into an intensive hair treatment and apply generously to your locks. I love Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Smooth Shine Treatment, £8.90 – you can notice the difference from the very first use.

STEP FIVE – AFTER THE BATH
When you’ve climbed out of the water and are wrapped up in a fluffy towel (I recommend leaving it on the radiator or heated towel rail for extra cosiness), there are few things more indulgent than dusting your body with a luxury powder, such as Crabtree & Evelyn Nantucket Briar Talc Free Body Powder, £7.65 – it’s so lightweight and silky that it feels like spun silk on skin.

STEP SIX – BEST FOOT FORWARD
Finally, finish your home spa ritual with a generous dollop of foot cream, smoothed into your soles and toes. Add a pair of soft night socks and let the cream work its magic as you drift off to sleep. Clarins Foot Beauty Treatment Cream, £16.80, might be pricey, but you will wake up with soft, smooth, richly hydrated tootsies that will make you want to do the whole ritual again…

Enjoy!
