Binky’s Guide To Glamorous Navy Blue Eyes – Tutorial

Blue Eye Tutorial

Greetings beauty lovers.

In this week’s blog I’m creating the latest eye trend of a perfect navy eye. Blue eye make-up was all over the catwalks for fashion week for Autumn/Winter 2013-14 – Topshop styled their models with messy baby blue shadow and Jason Wu opted for dramatic wings of indigo across lids. I’ve toned down this catwalk inspiration to create a wearable, glamorous blue eye make-up look, perfect for a night out.

And this week aside from the usual beauty tutorial – you’ll also get to meet my beautiful puppy Scrumble. He’s a six-month-old Kings Charles Cavalier Spaniel and I brought him to film this latest beauty vlog because I couldn’t bear to be parted from my precious ball of fur. And he was pretty well behaved during the shoot.

Anyway, here goes with how to create the perfect sultry blue eye for a night out.

Step 1 – Prime your lids

For a heavy eye make-up look like this one, opt for an eyelid primer, which will make sure your shadows stay put all night without creasing. Any eye products you apply on top of this base will look far more intense too. I’m using the bareMinerals Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer in Pearl. Apply this with your finger over your whole eyelid and up to the brow. This eye primer has a lovely creamy texture and has a slight shimmer so you could even use it as a cream shadow on its own for a pretty day look.

Step 2 – Into the shadows

I wanted this look to pack a punch, so to avoid a wash out of timid blue I’ve started by using a black eyeshadow. This is going to make the blue eyeshadow you put on later much bolder. Sweep this over your eyelids with a fluffy brush and then take the colour under your lash line.

Next apply your blue shadow, the bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow in the Last Call is ideal. Take the blue shade and pack this on with a flat brush. For more drama you can wet the brush slightly for a richer colour. Apply the blue up to your eye socket, winging out the colour slightly, then take a fluffy brush and blend out any harsh edges. Take your time blending, packing on more colour and blending again for the best results.

Step 3 – Define your eyes

When you’re happy with your blue eyeshadow, define your eye line with a liquid liner. I’m using the Guerlain Liquid Liner in Blue Outremer, use little brush strokes and keep as close as you can to the lash line. Wait for this to dry and then apply lashings of mascara with a chunky brush; this is going to help your lashes stand out against the strong blue shadow.

Step 4 – Go Bright

To make eyes pop, line your waterline with bright blue eyeliner. Run this across the bottom waterline and if you like the top waterline too. If bright blue isn’t your thing this would work perfectly well with a dark blue liner or black.

And that’s how to do a glamorous navy blue eye! To finish off the look, pair this with a beautiful nude lip to keep it chic.

I hope you enjoy the admiring looks you will get on a night out with this beautiful eye make-up look.

Lots of love, Binky and Scrumble x
