The Perfect Side Bun Tutorial

Binky's Perfect Side Bun

Hello my beauty buddies.

This week I’m going to show you a quick and easy side bun updo I’ve been enjoying trying out lately. I’m not going to lie to you, I do love the big hair I’m usually sporting on Made in Chelsea, but thought I’d branch out a bit and try something different this week – it’s always good to experiment!

It’s a really simple hairstyle that you can wear both day and night – Jennifer Lawrence and Lauren Conrad are both huge fans of the look.

Step 1

To start, give your hair a good brush and make sure it’s completely knot free. If you’ve got particularly dry or frizz-prone hair, a few drops of TIGI S-Factor Dream Drops will smooth and silkify it prior to styling.

Next, take some dry shampoo – I used TIGI Oh Bee Hive Dry Shampoo – and spritz it across the roots. This will create some volume on the crown and texturise the hair, making it easier to work with.

Step 2

Take half of your hair over to the side the bun will sit, and tie it into a side ponytail with an elastic band.

Split your ponytail into two pieces. Then, take a hair doughnut and feed it up the ponytail, pushing the two sections of hair into the middle of the doughnut as you go. Don’t worry about it looking a bit messy – you can tidy it up later.

Step 3

Once all the hair is inside the doughnut, take another elastic band and place it around the bun to smooth down any bits that have escaped. If you have particularly thick hair like me, slide some kirby grips underneath the bun to secure its upright position.

Finish by spritzing TIGI Bed Head Hard Head Hairspray all over the head to hold the style in place and get rid of any flyaways.

Et voila, a sleek and sophisticated Parisian-chic hairstyle in a matter of minutes! If you fancy a slightly more casual look, you can ruffle up the bun a la J-Law, or grab two sections of hair from the front to frame the face.

In keeping with the French theme, I thought I’d tell you about Guerlain’s divine new Crazy Paris Christmas make-up collection. It’s inspired by party season in Paris, and as such the collection – and its packaging – is bright and bold, with a touch of cheeky Parisian insouciance. It includes products for the face, lips and nails – here are my favourites.

Guerlain Crazy Paris Neon Look Eye Palette
This eye palette contains a glorious selection of shades you can use both day and night. The white and taupe shades, along with the matte grey and black liners, are great for crafting a daytime nude eye, while the shimmering molten bronze and bright pink shades make for serious Christmas party glamour.

Guerlain Crazy Paris Meteorites Crazy Pearls
These illuminating pearls help pick up dull winter complexions. Swirl them together with a powder brush to create a flattering universal shade – it sets make-up and gives your skin a gorgeous radiant glow. To top it off, the packaging is super-cute.

Guerlain Crazy Paris Perfumed Shimmer Powder Spray
Last but not least, this retro-style atomiser provides both scent and shimmer for the hair and body. A few spritzes of this will leave you with glimmering, divine-smelling skin – the perfect finishing touch before a big night out!

Stay beautiful,
