Lights, camera, action! It’s Oscars time, and I always get swept up in the glamour of the moment. Fabulous red-carpet frocks, gorgeous Hollywood beauties and endless glittering events. I love it so much, I’ve been known to pose in front of the mirror, clutching my Oscar/teddy and practising my acceptance speech for World’s Most Fabulous Female Star!
On a more realistic note (Earth to Binky!), even if most of us will never go to the Oscars, we all enjoy the occasional glamorous event – whether it’s a big party or an exciting date night. So this week I’ve created a camera-ready make-up look, and whether you’re mingling on the red carpet or getting up close with that special someone, you’ll look like a Hollywood screen siren.
The Camera-Ready Complexion
Whether you’re working the red carpet or getting up close and personal with one hot guy, the key to looking truly glamorous is a flawless complexion. Begin by applying a primer to create a smooth canvas for your make-up – I’ve used Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, which moisturises and smooths on easily. Foundation is essential when you’re after a camera-ready complexion. Guerlain’s Tenue de Perfection Foundation blends in really well to give amazing coverage. It evens out your skin tone and keeps your complexion looking fresh and dewy for hours. You may not need any concealer, but I’ve added a touch of bareMinerals Well-Rested Eye Brightener under my eyes to camouflage dark circles and brighten my eye area. Finish your Hollywood complexion with a light dusting of Guerlain Les Voilettes Translucent Loose Powder to fix your base in place.
The Paparazzi Glow
Now, you all know I love my bronzer, but there’s a good reason for adding a hint colour to your face. Bright lights and camera flashes can bleach out your skin, leaving you looking pale and pasty. Use a soft brush to swirl Too Faced bronzer across your cheeks, forehead and anywhere else you’d usually catch the sun, to achieve that healthy Hollywood glow. Now, use a big brush to swish highlighter across your cheekbones, under your eyebrows and above the Cupid’s bow of your lips. I’ve used Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Candlelight, which adds a subtle golden shimmer and will have your complexion gleaming beautifully all evening.
Just as I used a skin primer to create an even base for my foundation, I’m using an eyeshadow primer to smooth and even out the skin on my lids. This will stop my eyeshadow creasing and ensure it stays in place all night. Simply blend a small dab over your lids and smooth it in – but take care; the skin around your eyes is extremely delicate, so always use a light touch touch and avoid dragging.
As I want quite a bold, statement lip for this look, I’m keeping things neutral on the eyes with Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette in Rosewood. I swept the lightest shade all over my lid with a fluffy brush, then added a touch of the brown shimmery shades across my upper lash line.
I then defined my eyes with Clarins Crayon Khol Eyeliner in Intense Black, followed by lashings of Too Faced Lash Injection Mascara to add some volume to my lashes.
A Movie Pout
Finally, I applied Lady Danger by MAC to my lips for a glamorous Hollywood style matte pout. Another of my ultimate favourite orangey-red lipsticks is Daniel Sandler’s Luxury Matte Lipstick in Marilyn – it oozes old-school glamour, and despite having a matte finish is super-creamy on the lips. Mwah, mwah…
Until next, stay gorgeous. Hollywood here I come!
