Don’t you just love the changing of the seasons? Autumn is actually one of my favourite times of the year; I love swapping summer brights for more muted tones, and light textures for sumptuous velvet, wool and leather. You don’t have to give your wardrobe a personality transplant to tap into new season goodness, though. It’s a much-used sentiment, but it’s completely true – shake up your beauty and your accessories, and you can look bang up to date when you step from one season to the next.
The first thing on my new season check-list is nail colour. There’s nothing like slicking on a brand new hue to make you feel polished and on trend, and the newest drop of Michael Kors Nail Lacquer colour is just the way to do it. The collection of 9 shades complements some of the biggest trends seen on the A/W14 catwalks, from winter pastels for those not quite ready to let go of summer, to the decadent blues seen at some of London’s biggest shows. My pick? The impossibly sultry inky blue, Femme Fatale.

Keeping it fresh and natural-looking is one of the biggest trends for nails this autumn, with everyone from Narciso Rodriguez to Carolina Herrera tapping into the trend at New York Fashion Week. Keep your talons fairly short and oval, and use 2 coats for a smart and glossy tone-on-tone look without a hint of the dreaded ‘mannequin hand’. Extra points for attempting Band of the Outsiders‘ white outlined nails!
The Winter Pastels
Don’t shelve your soft summery shades just yet, because winter pastels were rife on the A/W14 runways. Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Chloe are just some of the houses that made our pastel-loving hearts beat a little faster by sending models down the runway in leather and faux fur in shades of lilac, lemon and baby pink. The flash of brighter colours in the Sexy Nail Lacquer Collection is a playful foil to the tailored lines of the season and, most importantly, they seriously perk up a dull grey day.
Autumn isn’t complete without some moody blues, and there’s blue hues aplenty in the Glam Nail Lacquer collection. Shades of cornflower, cobalt and kingfisher were key at London Fashion Week, notably at Roksanda Ilincic and Mario Schwab. A really easy way to tap into the look is with a spot of blue on your nails; keep it fresh with Impulse, or venture into darker territory with Femme Fatale. Seduction is the metallic entry of the collection, a molten gunmetal that recalls the greys seen at Vera Wang and Badgeley Mischka.
