Givenchy Dahlia Divin

Breaker Small

Our fragrance expert says:

“Created by perfumer, Francois Demachy (Dior’s in-house nose) and fronted by musician, Alicia Keys, Dahlia Divin attempts to bring the radiance of Givenchy couture into a ready-to-wear fragrance.  The result is a golden floriental (floral-oriental) that avoids the mainstream clichés of being too sweet or two thin.  In short, Dahlia Divin is really quite lovely.

Right from the outset, Dahlia Divin is a golden and shimmering fragrance that dazzles with an expansive sense of brightness that can only be described as ‘radiant’.  The fruity notes up top are creamy and fleshy, with the brilliant aura of Mirabelle plum providing an apricot jam-like freshness that is incredibly sunny and delightful.

The soft and velvety texture of the fruity opening seamlessly develops into a heart of luscious and milky white flowers.  Jasmine brings a slightly bitter edge, but for the most part the theme is plush and rubbery petals from a varying array of flowers.  The texture of gardenia, brightness of magnolia and the fleshy sweetness of tuberose all come together to create a full floral effect that feels surprisingly full-bodied.

As Dahlia Divin dries down, it unveils yet more plushness.  Sandalwood, which always acts as a nifty accompaniment to white flowers due to its silky texture, plays a prominent part and gives the fragrance a more robust sense of softness as things slow into the base.  There’s also a touch of darkness thanks to a peppery vetiver note that lurks quietly in the background, ensuring that Dahlia Divin displays a hint of hidden depth.

Dahlia Divin is a very pretty, wearable and enjoyable fragrance.  It’s definitely more distinctive than the original Dahlia Noir, but it simultaneously remains firmly within the mainstream, playing with the popular theme of radiant light that is seen in fragrances such as Elie Saab Le Parfum and Thierry Mugler’s Alien Essence Absolue.  Dahlia Divin differs from these two because it presents a more understated and less voluminous take on golden light, but it is ultimately a well-executed designer feminine that stands out within the Givenchy line up.”

At the moment black pencil eye liner, shimmery golden bronzer, dark blue
or dark red nails, transparent or natural lip gloss, messy hair with a
headband with autumn leaves or big bow, black thick wooly jumper, mid
heel boots, nice perfume, for example Opium or something with amber…

  • Alexandra Encut

After seeing the Christmas collection from Givenchy and ordering from you some stuff from this collection I truly believe that my favorite look for A/W will be this. Starting with the gorgeous, deep shimmery Prismissime Noir en Folie Palette, then applying that unique Rouge Interdit in shade Prune Folie (by the way I have never seen a more unique color); to complete the glamorous look, never forget about the essential, which is manicure. My choice will be Le Vernis Noir Satin all the way! And for the final step, just dab a little Mister Glow on the areas you want to glow. That’s my ultimate A/W look made entirely with Givenchy. Yeah, forget about reds and golds, black is the new black!

  • Jade Myers

I love that nude has stayed this season. I love nude lips and nails with the focus on gunmetal and petrol eyes – perfect for the festive season!

  • Milla Vuorinen

Black eye liner on top, lila pencil eye liner on under, shimmery white-silver-blue eye shadow, blood red lipstick, dark red nails

  • When it comes to beauty looks, I’m all about the soft, smoldering not-quite smokey eye paired with either a bright red or berry-hued lipstick.

For nighttime, I’d amp it up somewhat by wearing a berry lip while turning that smolder into a smokey eye, but retaining a bit of the softness to keep it looking like a nod to 1920s rather than the 1980s and Robert Palmer’s Addicted to love. Nails are either kept natural, taupe or a deep red.

I actually find the Guerlain Petrouchka and Dior’s Cuir Cannage palettes to be perfect for the look, often pairing it with a Kiss Kiss lipstick.

  • Gia

Red or plum lip with cat eye and a touch of gold highlighter for a subtle glow or the classic smokey eye with a nude lip.

  • Kelly glen

For autumn and winter it has to be very dark nail varnish usually with a pale lipstick.

  • lotti

oxe red blood colour either boots or accessories x

  • Cece

I love wearing the Mac Cranberry eyeshadow, paler skin and a plumb lip! laviecece.blogspot.com x

  • Aceso84

Graphical eyeliner and big bold eyes , go big or go home seems to be the message this year.

  • Georgina Jacobs

I love all the golden rust eye colours at the moment that are teamed with creamy plum lipsticks, they looks so luxurious and you can go from day to night quite easily with a few sparkly additions. It’s certainly an eye catching look. thanks

  • Paula Lane

  • JoHaigh

Prune, plum & berry with silvers & greys, the scent of Givenchy, …oh happy days!

  • Clairebear

    berry lips

  • Annabel W

My favourite has to be the glowing natural look with gold and nude shades sported by the models in the D&G autumn/winter collection. Pat McGrath is a brilliant example of the British makeup artistry! The look is fresh, healthy and radiant.

Vampy dark nails and lips never suited my skin tone, I much prefer a fresher and radiant natural look with lots of lashes (of course).

  • vera

    black eyeliner and red lipstick

  • Tiina

Make-up neutral with long black lashes, deep red nails and messy half up-do.

  • Insiya Ezzy

Loving all the dramatic eyes with full, natural brows, occasional rosy cheek or berry stained lip this A/W14. Standouts for me were the purple and taupe eyes at Chloe, off-duty ballerina looks at Diane Von Furstenburg and the gorgeous 60s vibe coming from the Italian houses.

  • Such an amazing prize! My favorite beauty look, for a night out, is a smokey eye make-up in black, with some glitter and marked cheekbones. A dark red lipstick and a lipgloss above to give some luster. In addition to this I would have a big tight hairbun. It works for so many outfits, to a stylish jumpsuit or to get something extra out of a classic jeans&top-outfit.

  • Sarah Reynolds

At the Harpers Bazaar AW14 event I loved the D&G’s “Enchanted Beauty” look with Pat McGrath. Lumious, flawless looking skin, classic black flicked eyeliner, gold dusted eye lids and plump rose pink lips. I would also love to see this look with a dark rouge red or cherry red lipstick to give it a Dita Von Teese look.

  • carow48

A ‘light’ smokey eye, natural but groomed brows, a touch of blush and caramel lips

  • Chloe

“En Pointe” seen at Prada and D&G. Luminous skin with flushed cheeks and lengthy lashes and soft pinks used on lips. Pretty and wearable very much like Dahlia Divin!

  • Katie Skeoch

Like the Chanel A/W show I love the full brows and flawless skin, a silvery eye with contrast flick is something I’ll have to try!!

  • Etomidac

I am really loving Givenchy’s A/W 14 makeup collection. A black base with a dazzling array of sparkling colours! So luxe and rich yet elegant and not over the top! Love!!

My fav look for autumn has to be the berry hues – so stylish. A gorgeous berry coat with skinny jeans, long boots and a huge scarf – fabulous! Xx

  • Ruth Chambers

My favourite beauty look is glowing skin, with a plum/black eyeliner flick, lashings of black mascara, pearly or gold-toned highlighter on the cheek and brow bones, and a muted, softly glossy red lip

  • Natasha Zake

My favourite now is a plait with messy bun. For the makeup I focus on the eyes with bold eyeliner and volumising mascara, then keep everything else natural looking and fresh with a touch of tinted lip gloss and faint blusher.

  • Christina Apostolopoulou

berry lips with lots of hair volume and a black vintage dress.

  • Rachel Canning

My favourite beauty look for A/W14 is a luminous complexion, subtle contouring, dark nude lips and a dramatic smokey eye using autumnal colours.

  • Beth Cardova

Fair skin, just a touch of rose on cheeks, nude eye shadows and black eye-pencil. Silky berry lips. Classic perfume. Elegant, classy, timeless and definitely something I love this season.

  • Bailey Jakobi

My fav beauty look is one that can easily be transformed from work to evening. Lisa Eldridge has many video tutorial with looks that fit this bill, but the latest featuring Downtown Abbey star Laura Carmichael, is a real gem 🙂

  • emily

The dramatic eyes are a big win for me escpecially now the dark nights and parties are rolling in x

  • Alissa Reid

smokey dramatic eyes for make up and gorgeous thick paisley scarves in clothing

  • Ina Aleksiejeviene

Sheer and fresh foundation, bold deep red lipstick and nail lacquer, subtle eyeshadows, black volume mascara, elegant and seductive fragrance.

  • As a dancer I feel completely at home with ballet insipred beauty; wispy buns, soft make-up and defined brows. Clean, sleek and elegant. I particulary admired the looks at Alberta Ferretti, Altuzarra, Carolina Herrera, Chloe, Diane Von Furstenburg and Dolce and Gabbana.

  • Sumukha Shuban

Jane Birkin in the late 60’s, early 70’s and ‘Brooke Shields brows’
A 70’s colour palette of tawny, taupe, nude and beige shades.

  • Natasha Zake

My favourite at the moment is a messy bun with plait. And keep your makeup looking natural apart from making accent on the eyes with bold eyeliner and volumising mascara.

  • Sophi Papaso

I use for a night look: black eyeliner, high volume black mascara, olive green and gold brown eyeshadows for eyes , and a dramatic color lipstick for lips. Thanks for the chance!

  • Trudy Marland

  • dawn berry

Dark autumnal colours for make up. And big jumpers with boots

Warm jumper with a co-ordinating scarf around the neck, nicely fitting jeans and smart Italian ankle boots ♥ and top it off with a beautiful perfume

  • Suzanne McCusker

Natural look for the day but with bright red lipstick to inject a flash of colour. Bold greens and golds for going out/party season.

  • Sounds lovely. A/W always makes me want to crack out the matte red lipstick, as clichéd as it sounds!

  • Serene Kurd

I’d have to say a Lovely dark Burgundy Lip & Brown / Gold Dewy Cream shadowed eyes !!! Mixed with Plaited hair look!! Was my fave A/W beauty look !!! 🙂 x

  • disqus_JL2nRj00zD

Smoky Eye & Red lip a timeless classic!!!

  • I would say that dark and subtle patters during the day and fun bright bold colors during the evenings. Layering with scarfs and boots and a nice overcoat with a belt on the outside around the waist .. ! Make up clean and bold lips .. That’s fall !

  • Purple/dark red lips, bronzer and dark toned blusher

  • Iga L

my fave trend for Autumn/Winter has got to be the bold, creamy, comforting matte lip. the minute I find lippy that suits my skin tone, I will team it with fresh, natural looking skin – tinted moisturiser all year round for me, with a dusting of loose powder and a bit of bronzer on the cheeks. occasionally when my skin is on the dull side, i reach for primer – Givenchy actually do a great product – Mr Radiant, Its amazing for fresh, all over glow. I usually wear one coat of mascara during the day and apply a few layers for an evening outing…
    THIS:

  • Alice

  • ELLEN DARLINGTON

It’s got to be the natural look but with lots of mascara for me…. 🙂 x

  • wentworthway

I lovely the smoky eyes and natural colour lips look best not to put too much makeup on eyes and lips

  • Frankie Gibson

I’m loving the jewel toned smokey eye – sexy and edgy whilst still being restrained

  • Tracy Mortimer Wray

As natural as possible, light pink lip tint, beige eyeshadow and brown mascara finished off with a little brush of colour on the cheeks to provide a warm, friendly glow.

  • Vacth

I’ve always been partial to Brooke Shields brows™, healthy, glowing skin, non-distracting yet well groomed and defined lashes, and a bit of a berry-like flush on the lips and cheeks for daytime. Nighttime – sexy, disheveled, imperfect smokey eye with nothing on the lips (personally find this way more chic than using a nude or barely-there lipstick).

  • sharon mead

my fav AW look is a strong deep red lip, with black lined eyes and no fake tan

  • Vicki A Smith

  • Jo Carroll

I think the re-introduction of blues in eye-liners and eye shades is just brilliant. It’s an echo of the late 60’s when my mum was having me and I have loads of photos of her wearing the ‘new’ daring shades in her big button coats. Now people say I look more like her every day, which isn’t a bad thing because she was and still is gorgeous to me.
