This time last year you would NEVER have heard me say the words ‘I love facial oils’. Now I’m thinking, isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing?
Gone are my days of worrying about an uneven texture and dreary skin tone from using oils on my oily complexion. But now, it’s actually gotten to the point where I feel a little uneasy if my little bottle of wizard’s magic isn’t to hand before bed. The results that I get the next morning are just too good! But don’t forget, I was just as apprehensive as you in the beginning of this elixir quest. So I know I’m going to have to try a little harder with my facial oil charm to win you over!
Why did I buckle? There is a reason why everybody’s talking about oils, and those connoisseurs who’d tried them and loved them were sharing reviews that we’re just too good to ignore. This mysterious apothecary style product has hit the big time! So, if until now you’ve held off investing your time in a rejuvenating elixir, I suggest you curl up on the sofa and log into your Pinterest account. Your beauty must-have board is about to get busy. Are you ready to find out why we turned to facial oils?
Reason #1: The Free Radical Protection
As most facial oils are blended with natural ingredients, essential fatty acids and powerful antioxidants, your complexion’s health is protected from nasty aggressors, such as pollution and premature ageing – win!
Reason #2: The Repairing Properties
Enriched with revitalising vitamins and a nutrient-rich texture, even the sorest skin can reap the benefits from replenishing facial oil. Whether you suffer from irritable sensitivity or dry, flaky skin, this super concentrated necessity can take your complexion from bleurgh to bouncy in one, easy night’s sleep – just keep an eye out for the suitable ingredients to match your skin’s main concern. We’ll get to that in a minute!
Reason #3: Redensifed Skin
It’s a given, as we grow older our elasticity levels decrease and the integrity of our moisture barriers hits a slump. So it’s an absolute must that we replenish any lost lipids and moisture with an intensive shot of conditioning care. The best form? A facial oil of course! Proven to increase the efficacy and absorption of your favourite day cream, facial oils are the future of a beautified complexion.
For Oily/Blemished Skin
How did my facial oil love affair start? The Barefoot SOS Repair + Renew Intensive Treatment Oil. For me, to see a product that combines anti-ageing and blemish care is rare. I quashed my sceptical side though, because I just had to put to it to the test. Are you wondering how oil on oil can actually work well? Adding an oil to your skin actually tricks your complexion into believing it’s made enough oil, thereby avoiding an overproduction. In addition, oil balancing products can mess around with your complexion’s equilibrium, so a conditioning oil is a perfect way to replenish an out-of-step complexion in one fell swoop. Trust me, it works!
For Dry Skin
Everybody knows the benefits of olive oil can have on your skin – especially DHC! Taking the regenerative and rehydrating properties from this natural oil, they’ve created a super powered dose of care to deliver a deep and intensive treatment for dehydrated/dry skin types. Packed full of antioxidants, skin feels instantly soothed with its lightweight and protective barrier. Have I intrigued you? Take a closer look at the Olive Virgin Oil Face Moisturiser.
For Mature Skin
This beautifying oil is a complete necessity for re-plumping and re-densifying mature skin types. Made from 100% pure rosehip seed oil, which contains omegas 3,6 and 9, plus a high concentration of vitamins A, C and E. Expect radiant results from the get go with the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil, a non-comedogenic formula that leaves your skin feeling beautifully soft and supple.
For Sensitive Skin
Created with a lightweight, gentle touch, Darphin Chamomile Aromatic Care works to soothe redness and calm irritation from the first use. Formulated to strengthen and rebuild your skin’s natural protective barrier, the comforting infusion of chamomile works to ease any unwanted itchiness and discomfort, whilst sage and lavender essential oils cool.
The All Rounder
Suitable for all skin types and all areas of your body (even your hair!), the Darphin Revitalising Oil is the perfect way to get stuck into the facial oil category, as you can use it to do pretty much everything! Loved by our editor, its invigorating blend of over 9 natural oils including sunflower seed, argan and jojoba seed oils condition and pamper your skin whilst lightly scenting it with an uplifting fragrance.
Now you’ve found your oil, how do you apply it?
Moisturisers can’t break through oils, but oils can slip through moisturisers, so we recommend that you apply your serum, then your facial oil, finally, finishes with your favourite moisturiser.
Dispense 3-5 droplets into clean palms, work into your hands and press your palms into your nose. Move hands out alongside your nose in outwards motion towards your ears and move downwards. Repeat this movement in a pressing motion, try to avoid rubbing the oil in.
Extra Oil Tips:
- • Mix your favourite oil with foundation for super-soft application with a dewy finish.
- • Mix your chosen facial oil with your favourite moisturiser for an intensive dose of hydration and repair.
- • Mix your favourite facial oil with sugar to create a super-softening facial exfoilator.
Over to you!
