8 Ways To Update Your Autumn Makeup Look

Key Autumn Pieces

Chelsey Signature copy

What’s your favourite thing about autumn? For me, there’s so much to love about this sumptuous season: hibernating in a cosy new scarf, picking out the ultimate AW16 coat and (most importantly) upgrading your autumn makeup look with deeper, darker hues.

If we think alike and you’re ready and waiting to pull out your favourite cashmere jumper and patent black boots, I’ve compiled a list of simple additions you can make to your overall look, to take your makeup from summer bronze to moonlit glow in an instant. Don’t panic! There’s no need to feel pressured into embracing a dark red lip, there are plenty of autumnal tweaks out there for you to own.  Get ready to start pinning/adding to your autumn makeup wish-list – your seasonal look is about to get a whole lot stronger.

Dior Rouge Classic Matte and Poison Matte

The Lips

Trend: Deep red

We all know that one of the biggest AW16 trends involves a bold, dark lip. On the flipside, I know deep burgundy lip isn’t for everyone. This autumn why not try a velvet matte texture? But don’t forget, it’s all about complementing and adding warmth to your skin…

Go Natural: DIOR Rouge Dior Couture Colour Lipstick 772 Classic Matte
Think ‘your lips but more pouty and kissable’. 772 Classic Matte subtly give finishes off your look with a complementary autumnal update. Neutral yet inviting, its elegant undertone and velvet matte finish glides over your lips to reveal a winning, warm hue that will dress up every complexion in a makeshift autumn jumper – divine!

Go Statement: DIOR Rouge Dior Couture Colour Lipstick 962 Poison Matte
As seen on the DIOR catwalk for A/W 2016, 962 Poison Matte is the epitome of dark lip envy. Its delicious blackberry hue is a must-have for those looking to take on the power lip trend. Apply two coats with a dark liner for a perfect purple pout or dab onto lips for a more demure berry bitten style.

Subtle eye and intense eye

The Eyes

Trends: Grown Up Glitter, Smoked
Although they may look great, my advice is to ditch the pale tones and opt for something a tad warmer this autumn. If you’re unsure about dark hues, you don’t have to stray too far out of your comfort zone to achieve a healthy, autumnal glow. Embrace a slight change with a red, golden or khaki hue. It could be the best thing your complexion has ever seen!

Go Natural: Laura Geller Delectable Eyeshadow Palette in Delicious Shades Of Nude
One palette that will see you through the whole season? The Laura Geller Delectable Eyeshadow Palette in Delicious Shades Of Nude. Its glowing combination of autumnal leaf hues will transform any and EVERY eye colour, I highly recommend the ‘Sunrise’ & ‘Dolce’ shades to make any eye colour pop this season.

Go Statement: GIVENCHY Liner Vinyl – Brush Tip Eyeliner High Shine 03 – Heroic Silver
If, like me, you can’t resist a touch of glitter, this shimmering silver hue is the perfect autumn makeup piece for you. Grown up glitter is a huge trend this AW16, so grab your liner and get creating! Apply a line to your regular smoky eye, as above, or apply all over a dark eye and pat dry to create a black/glitter eyeshadow effect.

Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base and Laura Geller Baked Highlighting Duo PortoFino Vanilla

The Face

Trend: Glowing Skin

Fresh faced beauty never fades, especially on the A/W16 runways. Dewy skin is in and we’re pretty excited about that here in HQ. As we’re not all blessed with an ethereal glow, please see below for an instant shot of luminescent finesse for your skin…

Go Natural: Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in Rose
Are you a bare-faced beauty who’s looking to add radiance to their complexion? You’ve just met your match. This glow-enhancing base is a game changer when it comes to lighting up your skin. No glitter, just radiance, its healthy pink undertone diffuses dull areas whilst providing the perfect base for any makeup that you’d like to wear on top. For an added highlight post-foundation, place 3 dots on your cheeks and blend for ethereal glowiness.

Go Statement: Laura Geller Baked Highlighter Duo in Portofino/French Vanilla
Two shades = double the highlight. Whether you’re going statement and subtle, you can wear the Portofino/French Vanilla duo anywhere. Layer both shades to structure your face shape and accentuate the high points of your face, or opt for sparkling champagne shade in the evening and the creamy sheer highlight for the day. Either way, get ready to see your face in a whole new light… literally.

Dior 112 Minimal and 848 Skyline

The Nails

The Trend: Earthy neutrals

A perfectly preened manicure is always in season. However, with the deep, dark hues of Autumn to play around with, a simple yet fun nail polish tweak can instantly update your look for autumn, with or without having to apply a statement dark lip.

Go Natural: DIOR Dior Vernis Couture Colour – Gel Shine Nail Lacquer in 112 Minimal
What is it about nude nails? There’s something distinctly elegant and endearing about a barely-there shade. Bang on trend, Minimal’s milky-peachy base graces your manicure with a subtle yet chic finish that will complement any outfit.

Go Statement: DIOR Dior Vernis Couture Colour – Gel Shine Nail Lacquer in 848 Skyline
I don’t know about you, but I love to dress my nails in a lavish autumn finesse. I’m talking rich wines hues and crackling fire oranges. Statement and seductive, Skyline fulfils all of my Autumnal needs with its rustic, sensual hue. It definitely screams powerful woman. What’s not to love?

The eyeshadow palette is #goals, tbh. Beautiful colours, although similar to each other.

Isn’t it just the best? What I love about these shades is that they all vary in pigment, some are matte, some have a sheen whilst others glitter with gorgeousness – it’s just beautiful, not to mention being perfect for autumn too! Which shades do you usually go for, Jazzy? – Chelsey

I’m new to this, but I do like shades of bone, warm golds, warm purples. Just lovely autumnal shades. But the brands I’ve been using tend to be too powdery, so I want a palette that isn’t powdery at all, and more buttery!

This palette sounds perfect for you, then Jazzy! I see, the shimmering shades are definitely more buttery in this palette. You can find a shade and texture guide in the product copy, just here: http://escentu.al/2cjVSVy – Chelsey
