Don’t be sceptical – primers work! From product finishes to skin types, choosing a suitable base for your complexion doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.

I know what you’re looking for. You want a primer that will feel comfortable, prolong your makeup and create the smoothest, baby soft base. Well, voilà! Everything you need to know about choosing a luxury primer awaits below. Are you ready to find your perfect base?

.

Important factors to consider:

1) Your skin type – A moisturising primer won’t benefit an oily skin type. Match your concerns with the credentials of your chosen primer to boost and enhance your foundation’s current longevity levels.

2) Texture preference – If consistency is important to you, the texture of your chosen primer is essential. Creams, gels, balms are available… choose wisely.

3) Your foundation consistency – Most primers work perfectly with any foundation. However, those who like a powder foundation may want to wait an extra few minutes to apply. The contrasting consistencies can mean that the products need extra time to blend perfectly together!

1) Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Makeup Base

For me, Dior Forever & Ever Wear is an essential step to ensure my makeup lasts all day. The difference with this primer is that it’s enriched with soft focus and mattifying powders, so those with oily skin can feel secure knowing its non-oily formulation will lock their favourite foundation in place. It’s ‘Poreless Effect’ technology specifically targets any pore-related problems (dryness, dilating, etc) to keep you looking beautifully matte all day long.

Recommended skin type: All, particularly oily
Primer Finish: Non-shiny radiance
Primer Texture: Fluid to powder

2) Givenchy Mister Smooth Smoothing Primer

Mister Smooth by name, Mister Smooth by nature, I can’t describe in words how soft this primer actually is. Flaky skin, be gone and enlarged pores can now be a thing of the past with this one. Your canvas has never been so flawless than with the Mister Smooth Smoothing Primer. If you’re looking for a perfectly even base that’s baby soft, then this one is for you.

Recommended skin type: All, particularly patchy
Primer Texture: Opalescent to transparent
Primer Finish: Smooth

Love love love Hylamide Blur but am undecided whether to repurchase or try something new. I love the sound of bareMinerals but have never tried them as a brand x

It’s an incredible primer, Rachel! In fact, I adore Deciem as a whole, HA Blur is definitely up there with my favourites from their ranges. Ooh, fancying a change, are you?

      The main differences are:
      1) HA Blur has the plumping benefits, whereas Prime Time is solely a makeup primer
      2) Prime Time’s texture is way more velvety than HA Blur
Do you prefer skincare benefits in a primer? If so, stick with HA!

      I hope this helps 🙂 – Chelsey
