The Eye Colours To Be Seen Wearing This Autumn

The Colours To Wear On Your Eyes This Autumn | Escentual.com

I think autumn is the very best time to experiment with colour. Why I hear you ask? The season of warm, cosy knits and indulgent, rich textures is here and as temperatures start to change, so does the need for new, transitional autumn makeup shades to suit.

Taking inspiration from some key AW17 beauty looks and complementing enchanting fall shades, here are 5 of our favourite earthy hues to fire up your seasonal eye makeup switch…

Pumpkin Eyes

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow
(L-R) ME-734 – TangerineI-722 – Mandarin, & ME-744 Poppy

MUFE Artist Shadow (L-R) - ME-734 - Tangarine & I-722 - Mandarin

Rule number one: don’t be scared of orange eyeshadow. It will literally change your life, well, not literally, but orange is one of those universally complementing hues that once applied correctly will create a soft, subtle lift that breathes an extra bit of life into your everyday makeup look.

If you’re an eyeshadow novice, but you love the look of this rustic shade, then here’s my number one tip:  use a fluffy brush. This will pick up less product, and allow you to build up the gradient ever-so-gently. Buff the colour into your crease for a natural look, or apply all over for the perfect fall eye. Starry Night Lashes

Guerlain Gold Light Top Coat

GUERLAIN Gold Light Top Coat - Lash, Brow & Hair Mascara

Obsessed with glitter? Guerlain’s new Gold Light Top Coat will definitely appeal to your inner shimmer magpie. Perfect for the party season, this limited edition top coat will dress your eyes, brows and hair in a sprinkle of delicate gold shimmer that’s oh-so-pretty!

You don’t need to go bold with your glow if that’s not your thing; it’s easy to layer this golden shimmer without making it overdone. Personally, I like to dip a small brush into the tip of the mascara and apply it in the centre of my eyelid and inner corner of my eye for a sparkling, but subtle look.

Graphic Lines

Shiseido Inkstroke Eyeliner
Shiseido Inkstroke Eyeliner in BL603 - Kon-ai Blue, VI605 - Nasubi Purple, GY902 - Empitsu Gray

Year after year, you can always rely upon bold eyeliner to be a huge makeup trend. Shiseido has created a gel eyeliner with a difference just in time for autumn. Inspired by the art of calligraphy, this smudge- and water-resistant formula doesn’t crease or compromise on colour, so you can be as creative as you want when creating your favourite graphic line looks.

The shade selection within eye momentum is pretty special if you’re trying to steer away from using black every day. Blue eyes? Try GY902 Empitsu Gray, a beautiful steely hue. Brown eyes should opt for the bold navy of BL603 Kon-ai Blue, and green eyes will pop with VI605 Nasubi Purple.

Alternative Plum Peepers

GIVENCHY Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in 20 Rosy Black
GIVENCHY Ombre Couture Eyeshadow 20 - Rosy Black

Quite possibly one of my favourite colours in this roundup, the Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in 20 Rosy Black is one of those shades that will look great on everyone. Ignore the name Rosy Black, as the pairing of a smokey black undertone and a twinkling pink shimmer combine to make the prettiest plum shade around, dressing the eyes in a twinkling wash of midnight purple to accentuate and brighten all eye colours.

For a delicate pop of colour, apply with your finger and blend. To recreate the swirling beauty of an autumnal night sky on your lids, use a flat bristle brush and pack on the colour.

Lustrous Lids

MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder in 4 Bronze

MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder in 4 - Bronze

If you’re going to be brave this season, rustic copper and burnt brown shades always go down a treat. One shade to take note of is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder in 4 Bronze, as it will help you step out of your comfort zone and enhance your statement looks with a stunning pop of shimmering colour with minimum effort.

Keeping in trend with the metallic and autumnal theme, this highly flattering shade will light up your eyes and your look in a single sweep. Again, perfect for glitter addicts, this show-stopping shade is a complete fail-safe for this time of year. For extra intensity, wet your brush before applying for a deeper, copper-bronze colour pay-off.  Not your cup of tea?
