It’s been just over six months since I wrote my last post, but I’ve been tucked away for a very good reason… I had a baby this summer! Admittedly, beauty has been the last thing I’ve been thinking about for the past few months (shout out to the ladies with the dark circles and the mum buns). Baby skincare, though? What a treasure trove of products!
I couldn’t think of a better topic to talk about upon my blogging return than than my new baby skincare obsession, and there’s one collection in particular that both me and my little boy Nico just cannot get enough of right now: Bioderma ABCDerm. That’s right, one of my favourite skincare brands has introduced a baby-specific skincare range right after I had a baby of my own. Coincidence? Oh, most definitely. But it’s fun to pretend they created it just for us.
We’ve have had so much fun exploring these gorgeous products at bath time, and I think you and your little one will love them too. Here are Nico’s favourites from the range…
If there’s just one thing that you try from the Bioderma ABCDerm collection, make it this. The ABCDerm Mild Cleansing Foaming Gel is the sort of product that you can recommend to just about anyone who’s just had a baby; it’s the ultimate one-stop-shop for fuss-free bath times. Not only can the gentle gel be added to running bath water to create masses of fluffy bubbles, it can also be used directly on skin and hair to refresh and cleanse. That means no need for multiple bottles of bath gel, body cleanser and shampoo cluttering up the side of the bath – genius!
The practical mum in me also loves the fact that the Cleansing Foaming Gel comes in a super-sized pump bottle, which is always a plus when you’re wrestling with a wriggly baby. And on a slightly less practical note, I absolutely adore the fragrance of this gel. It’s become ‘Nico’s scent’ now, and I think I’ll always buy this so that I can be reminded of what he smelt like when he was teeny tiny!
Nico and I aren’t particularly loyal when it comes to moisturisers; we have great fun trying out lots of different scents and textures. The ABCDerm Hydratant Moisturising Mild Milk Care is probably the most versatile moisturiser in our collection, though, simply because of its brilliant texture (and that aforementioned scent!).
The sublime lotion has a rich but fluid feel that glides over skin quickly and easily without leaving any residue. That last point is a pretty important one when you’re trying to navigate flailing arms and legs into a sleep suit, as dressing freshly moisturised little ones can be like trying to put a wet pair of jeans on! The pampering, medium-weight texture makes it ideal for both bedtime massage and everyday moisturising. I’ve even been known to use it as a hair styler to keep Nico’s mop in his signature side parting.
A Butt’s Best Friend
Nappy cream isn’t always necessary during your baby’s nappy change, but you probably find that when you do need it, you really need it to pull its weight to soothe skin as quickly and effectively as possible. The ABCDerm Change Intensif Diaper Rash Water Paste does just that, creating a lightweight yet effective barrier between the skin and their nappy, whilst also keeping skin well-moisturised and comfortable.
The texture of this formula is a really nice change of pace from the richer and more unctuous creams we’ve used in the past; its so difficult to achieve a thin layer of protection when the texture is just so thick! The Change Diaper Rash Water Paste is as fresh and fluid as its name suggests, though, and it effortlessly keeps nappy rash at bay without feeling heavy and sticky.
