7 Makeup Swaps You Should Make For Spring

I can finally say those 3 little words I’ve been waiting forever to say: spring is here! I’ve been counting down the days for a while, not because I’m tired of layering my clothes or carrying an umbrella everywhere, but because it’s my favourite season for makeup.

Glowing, dewy skin is my thing all year, but now I get to shout about it and share some of my tips for getting your colour palette right for the season. So, grab your makeup bag and let’s do a spring clean, makeup style…

Clarins Mineral Sun Care Fluid for Face SPF 30 30ml

#1 Swap to a moisturiser with SPF…

Everyone should be using a facial SPF, but unfortunately, that’s just not the case. So, if you’re reading this with a sheepish look on your face (and no SPF on it), you know what to do! You might, however, be like the many people I’ve spoken to that say: “the formula just doesn’t sit right under my makeup”, and to that, I’d say: “you haven’t tried the Clarins Mineral Sun Care Fluid SPF 30“. Lightweight and comfortable, its liquid formula is almost invisible when you work it in. It’s an easy choice for anyone that’s been debating about which SPF formula to buy; it’s great for sensitive skin, won’t interfere with your foundation, is water resistant and also does good for your skin too!

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Nude Foundation SPF19 40ml

#2 Swap to a lighter base…

Never steered away from full coverage foundations before? Well, this may just be the season that you do. The answer why is simple; Lancome’s launched, Teint Idole Ultra Wear Nude, and it puts even the highest coverage and long-lasting bases through their paces. It’s buildable and doesn’t look cakey in the slightest – so many of the Escentual team, and bloggers will back me up on that, just read this review! What you can expect is skin that looks flawless and demi-matte but still natural, which if you ask me is perfect for spring!

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat High Cover Radiant Concealer Pen 2.5ml

#3 Swap to a radiant concealer…

Concealer may not be the first thing you’d think to change when spring makeup comes to mind, but take my advice on this one; the right concealer, especially under the eyes will make your entire complexion look fresh and radiant.

YSL recently unveiled Touche Eclat High Cover, and I haven’t looked back since so this recommendation is easy.  A concealer version of their iconic highlighting pen (finally), it does exactly what you’d expect; hides dark circles, any unwanted blemishes and gives your under eyes a beautiful boost.

bareMinerals BarePro Longwear Eyeshadow Stick 1.6g

#4 Swap to a cream eyeshadow…

In my opinion, cream eyeshadows are always a good idea. But when it comes to spring, you really can’t go wrong. Not only are they more comfortable but they make eyeshadow a walk in the park, a few quick swipes and a blend with the fingertip and you’re out the door.

If this piques your interest then you’ll swoon over the bareMinerals BarePro Eyeshadow line-up; the colours are jaw-dropping (Brilliant Bronze is my top pick), their extremely creamy and cooling when applying, which makes for the dreamiest blend. If you struggle with smoky eyes usually, add one to your makeup bag and thank me later!

Benefit Hoola Dew The Hoola Liquid Bronzer 30ml

#5 Swap to a liquid bronzer…

So many people use a powder bronzer just because it’s the norm. But I urge you to try a liquid formula if you haven’t yet. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I did, and my entire result was transformed. I can’t tell you how long I endured powder clinging to my eczema patches!

But even if dry skin isn’t an issue for you, a liquid bronzer is still a must-try, it mimics a natural tan wonderfully and will give your skin a healthy glow. One of my go-to’s and one I recommend time and time again is none other than cult-favourite, Hoola Liquid Bronzer; it’s not orange in the slightest, it stays put and it leaves a soft matte finish.

DIOR Addict Stellar Shine Lipstick 3.2g

#6 Swap to a high-shine lipstick…

This season isn’t only about shining lips; it’s about coral, the Pantone Colour of the Year. And luckily, you can tick both off by adding the new DIOR Stellar Shine Lipstick in Clair D Lune to your makeup collection. The lipstick of the moment, it has a sun drenched warm coral hue and a creamy texture infused with pearlescent micro-pigments that give lips intense shine, plus five oils that deliver 24 hours of hydration. If you’re serious about spring makeup, or keen to stay on-trend, this is the easiest shopping decision you’ll make.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Shimmer Stick Highlighter 9g

#7 Swap to a cream highlighter…

You’ve probably noticed a theme in this edit: creamy textures. And that includes highlighters too. Spring is a great opportunity to swap out a powder highlighter to a cream one. Why? Well, not only are cream textures lighter, but you’ll notice how they blend into the skin and make the complexion look far more fresh and dewy – just what the season ordered!

Last month the YSL Touche Eclat Shimmer Stick landed on my desk, and it was perfect timing; you couldn’t want for a more creamy, pigmented formula, plus it makes your cheekbones rival those of a supermodel. My shade of choice is Rose Gold; it has an ethereal pink-gold hue that looks effortless on the skin.
