On Valentine’s Day, we often think about iconic couples, whether they be real-life couple goals a la Jay-Z and Beyonce, or perfume power couples like Gaultier’s infamous Classique and Le Male. This year, however, we wanted to do something a little bit different, so we’ve gone through our extensive range of scents to match-make fragrances that complement each other perfectly, just like you and your beau.
There’s no need to swipe left on these pairings because they’re made for each other; even if they’re zingy-fresh, powdery-soft, tasty-sweet or smoky-seductive.
#1 Freshen Things Up
If you’re the type of couple that likes to keep things zippy and fresh, then the olfactory world of citrus is for you. There are few things in life more refreshing than a mouthwatering citrus scent, and I’ve picked out a ‘his and her’ couple that brings freshness in spades! For him, the soft, milky greenery of Acqua di Parma’s Fico di Amalfi evokes the image of glorious figs ripening under the Italian sun. As the perfect compliment, Guerlain’s Pamplelune is a zippy, tart grapefruit fragrance – it is perhaps the juiciest thing on the planet. Together they’re the freshest couple on the block.

#2 Show Your Soft Side
Powder in perfume (i.e. that soft, finely-milled texture you sometimes get from notes such as iris, mimosa or violet) is often associated with femininity. But in reality, several powder fragrances can easily be worn by a man (some powder aromas are even designed for men).
Powder scents are for the softer, more artsy couple – the kind of couple that is always impeccably dressed in designer gear and are always Instagram ready. For him, there are few powder scents more handsome than Cartier’s L’Envol. Inspired by the innovative history of flight, L’Envol boasts a soft, billowy signature of powder, woods and honey that has a tender, introspective feel. As for her, well, when it comes to modern, chic powder, there is no other option other than the diffusive, glistening Infusion d’Iris by Prada.

#3 Try Sweet Talking
Now, if you and your main squeeze enjoy smelling like a calorific carnage of sugar and sweetness, then this section is for you. Here, you can both smell like a sugar rush! For the boys, there is the new Bad Boy by Carolina Herrera. Not only does it come in a bottle that looks like a lightning bolt, but it also smells delicious with pepper, cedarwood, tonka bean and rich cocoa. The female of the species is Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier – an intoxicating gardenia dripping in exotic honey. What a delicious pair they are!

#4 Dial Up The Intensity
Finally, for something a bit deeper, richer and more intense. Oud. For a long time oud has very much been the “in thing” and at this point, it has its own genre. People like oud because it has an intensity and brashness that demands attention, and this oud-y couple certainly says “look at me”. Guerlain’s Oud Essentiel, my pick for the boys, is a traditional rose-oud composition that has tremendous tenacity and smokiness thanks to some nifty woody-amber notes. Alien Oud Majesteux (for the girls) however, is something more atypical – a heady, syrupy jasmine shrouded in a veil of smoke that evokes the red deserts of Mars. Both are guaranteed to grab attention.
