The French Beauty Buys We’ve Used Up

The French Beauty Buys We’ve Used Up

Working at Escentual is any beauty lovers dream come true. We’re always testing out the latest launches to bring you the best. But there is one downside to that; we rarely get to finish things off. So in a bid to be more sustainable, and rediscover old favourites, we’re committed to ‘using up’ the products in our stash. Plus what better way to know good something really is than using every last drop. To mark the beginning of this series, we’re starting with what we’re known for – French Pharmacy

1. The Soothing Eye Cream

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; Bioderma Sensibio Eye Contour Gel

My eyes have become super sensitive as of late. Between hayfever, contact lenses and eczema, I’ve been struggling. Because of this, I pushed many of my eye creams to one side. Everything was stinging, but then I rediscovered Bioderma’s Sensibio Eye Contour Gel. Made for sensitive skin it’s a godsend – not only does it not sting, but it’s also incredibly soothing. After I used it once, it became a staple in my morning and nighttime routine. As well as keeping flare-ups at bay thanks to a patented Toléridine® complex, it’s also helped with puffiness – I’ll take all the help I can get on that. After this rave review, you can probably guess – I will 100% be rebuying this!

2. The Non-Greasy Neck Cream

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; Vichy Neovadiol Phytosculpt Neck & Face Contours Cream

Since reaching my 40s, I’ve been conscious of my neck. In particular the firmness of this area, especially under my chin. I tried a few different neck creams as part of an upcoming edit, and the Vichy Neovadiol Phytosculpt impressed me because of the results it gave in such a short time. What I loved about it was the consistency; a lot of neck creams can be very rich which makes them difficult to wear during the day (my hair sticks to them); this one by Vichy feels rich and luxurious without the greasiness. After three weeks of using this, the area under my chin felt firmer, and the lines on my neck were less pronounced. I’ll definitely be repurchasing; it’s a great price point for a neck cream, which can often be at the pricier end of the scale!

3. The Glow-Giving Foundation

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; Vichy Mineralblend Hydrating Foundation

Vichy Mineralblend Hydrating Foundation released last year and has been a staple in my makeup bag since. I’m currently on tube five – yes, five! It’s that good! But why is it my everyday foundation? Because it’s packed full of hyaluronic acid and minerals which means my dry complexion stays hydrated and my skin texture is better when I take it off. Secondly, I adore the finish; the watery fluid feels wet when I first apply it, but drys down incredibly dewy and glowy. Healthy, radiant and flawless, my skin looks (and I feel) all of the above when using this foundation!

I’m quite thrifty when it comes to my makeup purchases and always wait for the most affordable time to buy all my favourite products, so as you might have guessed French pharmacy is a key date in my beauty calendar. I’m hanging on to the last few drops of my Mineralblend tube, so honestly, it couldn’t come soon enough!

4. The Family-Favourite Balm

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm

The last product I finished is Eucerin’s Aquaphor; although I must admit that I’ve had a little help using it up because I share it with my mum!

I’ve recently started going on long walks on the weekends, which is why we’ve run out of this ultra-hydrating skin saviour; I love to pop it on my heels after a trek!

My mum suffers from extremely dry feet and uses it to comfort and moisture them. Ever since she first tried it a few months ago, she hasn’t looked back; it’s stopped her feet from cracking, which she’s struggled with for years. She now has two on the go at any one time – one in her bedroom and one in the living room.

And as for the question of whether I’ll be rebuying? We already have another two back-ups.

5. The Must-Have Micellar Water

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; Bioderma Sensibio H2O - Micelle Solution

No matter where I am, I will not be without Bioderma Sensibio H2O; it’s a micellar water for people that suffer with sensitivity and redness. I always buy the 500ml size because I use it every morning to cleanse my face and as a makeup remover in the evening. I had not long finished this bottle, and in desperate need, I have been using my 100ml travel-sized bottle, which I have now finished. With no doubt and in desperate need, I will be rebuying this – potentially a few to make sure I never run out again!

6. The Hydrating Face Mist

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Anti-Age Refreshing Mist Spray

I’m devastated to say that my French Pharmacy empty is the Eucerin Hyaluron Spray that I bought in the last French sale! One of my “desert island” products, it effortlessly refreshes and moisturises my skin and leaves a healthy radiant glow which I can’t get enough of – it’s my favourite face spray.

When I went camping over the summer, this was a lifesaver. I used it in the morning to wake my skin up and then throughout the day when I needed a bit of a refresh (mostly when it was hot). I love the way the hydrating spritz feels as it settles. Despite being a fine mist, it still feels creamy and moisturising. It absorbs quickly too, which I like, and I love how soft and plump my skin feels. I will be replacing this empty (and probably will every French Pharmacy sale!).

7. The Pore-Shrinking Serum

French Pharmacy Skincare Empties; La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C10

La Roche-Posay Vitamin C 10 has been around a while, but it’s only since lockdown that I’ve started using it religiously; my skin has dramatically benefited from having it in my routine.

It was on a recent #NightInWithEscentual that Janette, the brand’s Head Of Training talked me through the benefits, and how it could help shrink my pores. I’m so thankful I’ve found it, and now I’ve run out, I need to order more.

As it’s active vitamin C, you can only use it for two months before throwing it away. My advice is to apply it generously every morning and before bed – avoid using it in the evening if you use retinols and AHAs. Learn more about layering actives in my cliff notes from the live.
