1. The Radiant Fragrance
Fragrance Pick: Thierry Mugler Alien Goddess Eau de Parfum
Top Notes: Coconut & Bergamot.
Heart Notes: Jasmine & Heliotrope.
Base Notes: Bourbon Vanilla & Cashmeran.
Why Does This Scent Remind You Of Summer? As October began, the cold weather started to cloud over my visions of sunset skies and fond summer memories. But just as the darkness and rainy storms started to dampen my mood, I discovered Alien Goddess in the #EscentualScents discovery set. Immediately, its tropical fruits and radiant florals brought back the energy and brightness of summer, transporting me to a tropical island with warm golden sand drenched in sunlight. From that point on, I was addicted.
Although I love the cosy winter months, the feelings of happiness and adventure in summer can’t be matched, and this EDP manages to encapsulate just that, unlocking a sense of carefree positivity and optimism.
If Your Fragrance Was A Destination, Where Would It Be? Thierry Mugler’s Alien Goddess reminds me of a vacation in the Caribbean! I’m transported to early mornings in a beach hut, walking barefoot across the warm wooden floorboards as airy white curtains billow in a light tropical breeze; the air is filled with the sparkling fruits and opulent florals native to the island. The finishing touch of vanilla has a familiar comforting tone to it, encapsulating the feeling of fond holiday memories with loved ones.
2. The Juicy Fragrance
Fragrance Pick: Versace Dylan Turquoise Eau de Toilette
Top Notes: Mandarin Essence, Lemon Essence & Pink Pepper.
Heart Notes: Blackcurrant Bud Absolute, Jasmin, Guava & Freesia.
Base Notes: Clearwood, Woods & Musk.
Why Does This Scent Remind You Of Summer? To me, Versace Dylan Turquoise is everything I always hope summer will be: fun, sunny and utterly optimistic. It’s playful, sweet and juicy from the get-go, thanks to a blend of honeyed mandarin, sharp lemon and a lively dash of pink pepper. The heart is set apart from a lot of other fruity-floral fragrances as it has a unique tropical guava note, which definitely has a summer vibe to it. Finally, the base settles into a softer, warmer musky-woody tone that reminds me of late summer evenings when you can just about feel the last bit of heat from the sun’s dying rays on your skin.
If Your Fragrance Was A Destination, Where Would It Be? It has to Greece. It’s definitely got a sun-kissed Mediterranean feel that makes me think I’m walking through a sun-dappled garden just a stone’s thrown from the coast. I’ve got a fizzy cocktail in hand as I breathe in the aroma of tart, zesty citrus fruits that are ready for picking and velvety fresh flowers that almost make you feel drunk with optimism.
In fact, I’d even go as far as to say that this would be the signature scent of Mamma Mia’s Donna Sheridan as she falls in love with the (sadly fictional) Greek island of Kalokairi. And of course, the bottle itself channels Greek history and culture through its amphora-style bottle.
3. The Warm Fragrance
Fragrance Pick: Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau de Parfum Intense
Top Notes: Tangerine, Bergamot & Lavender.
Heart Notes: Jasmine Sambac, Orange Blossom & Orchid Accord.
Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Ambergris & Vetiver.
Why Does This Scent Remind You Of Summer? Libre Intense is like a hot summer evening: it’s mysterious, sweet and has an undeniable warmth that lasts all night. The rich vanilla intensity mixed with a bouquet of fresh florals – like lavender, jasmine, orange blossom and orchid – gives it a solar quality that reminds me of sipping cocktails outside during the summer.
If Your Fragrance Was A Destination, Where Would It Be? Libre reminds me of Dubai! I haven’t been yet, but I would love to go. The scent’s powerful sweetness feels expensive and bold, and its warmth reminds me of the smell of hot sand.
4. The Honeyed Fragrance
Fragrance Pick: GUERLAIN Aqua Allegoria Nettare Di Sole Eau de Toilette
Top Notes: Aquatic Notes & Bergamot.
Heart Notes: Floral Honey Accord.
Base Notes: Musk.
Why Does This Scent Remind You Of Summer? One deep breath of GUERLAIN Aqua Allegoria Nettare Di Sole and you’re transported to a sunny summertime picnic, surrounded by bees gently buzzing amongst the wildflowers. Both warm and fresh, the fragrance has an unusual sweetness from its honeyed heart, which feels both natural and comforting. This makes it the perfect fragrance for daytime wear, especially when you want to be reminded of the long drawn out days of summer. To me, there’s a tiny hint of a luxurious sun cream smell, so I can almost feel the warmth of the sun as I apply it, even during the coldest months as Nettare Di Sole’s musky base is lifted by its honeyed sweetness and delicate florals.
If Your Fragrance Was A Destination, Where Would It Be? The stunning, honeycomb-adorned bottle gives a nod to nature – as does the fresh-floral fragrance within – but with a sophisticated feel that you’d expect from GUERLAIN. These rich gold tones and irresistible sweetness feels classic yet chic so to me, Nettare screams Italian glamour. Flooded with brilliant sunshine, the luscious countryside, golden sandy beaches and modern cities of Italy would all be dreamy destinations to wear Aqua Allegoria Nettare Di Sole as the balance between glamour and nature within the fragrance gives an undeniable Italian feel.
