GUERLAIN L’Heure Bleue Eau de Toilette Review

GUERLAIN L'Heure Bleue Eau de Toilette Spray Review

A timeless, classic fragrance, GUERLAIN L’Heure Bleue Eau de Toilette has a delicate sensuality that grows into a powdery oriental-floral scent. Part of the GUERLAIN Legendary fragrance collection, the evocative scent is emblematic of GUERLAIN’s experimental fragrance heritage. L’Heure Bleue has an almost unsettling character as it starts with a fresh citrus tone before totally transforming into a very powdery oriental-floral that enchants the senses.

This Fragrance Smells Like…

Expertly crafted, L’Heure Bleue has two distinct tones. When first sprayed, the lively citrus top note of bergamot is nuanced by the subtly spice, liquorice-esque aniseed accord before its bright, honeyed florals bloom in the heart. The bewitching scent unveils a powdery tone as it settles; the violet and iris facets are placed with the juxtaposing, delectable tones of vanilla, benzoin and tonka bean.

What’s The Story Behind This Scent?

Master perfumer, Jacques Guerlain, felt compelled to create L’Heure Bleue in honour of the magical moment after the sun had set but darkness had not yet fully fallen. Although this time of day inspired him all the way back in 1912, it’s still just as relevant and precious today. Jacques Guerlain’s poetic description of the time when “the night has not found its star yet” almost conjures up an image of the calm before the storm as the night is perfectly still, waiting for the inevitable downpour. The harmony between darkness and light can be felt within the fragrance as the deep powdery florals descend after the initial burst of citrus, mimicking the shining sun fading away to reveal the deepest blues of the night sky.

You Will Love This If…

Powdery fragrance lovers will be captivated by the incredible softness and romanticism of this powdery-oriental fragrance. The hint of spice and citrus give L’Heure Bleue an instantly recognisable charisma that any GUERLAIN fragrance fan will appreciate.

L’Heure Bleue is a deeper, more intense version of GUERLAIN Legendary fragrance, Apres L’Ondee; it has a similar powdery-floral element but feels like a richer version of the scent.

Is L’Heure Bleue Unisex?

Any fragrance can be enjoyed by anybody and although L’Heure Bleue will be adored by any powdery-floral fragrance lover, it does admittedly have a more typically feminine presence.

What’s The Longevity Like?

But for an Eau de Toilette, L’Heure Bleue has an impressive longevity. As the fragrance settles onto the skin, the powdery-oriental dry down becomes more subtle with time but still retains its endearing quality.

What’s Special About The Bottle?

The glass bottle has been beautifully crafted with an elegant softness that runs throughout the design, creating a double-walled style that’s offset by subtle gold accents. The ‘inverted heart’ shaped stopper is iconic to GUERLAIN, while the Art Nouveau undertones found in the rolling scroll edges remind you of the brand’s lasting French heritage.
