January Wishlist: Best Luxury Makeup

January Wishlist: Best Luxury Makeup

If there’s one thing we know at Escentual, it’s luxe. From Givenchy and Dior to Guerlain and YSL, we stock some of the world’s leading premium beauty brands. Are you a luxury makeup fan like us, too? If yes, come back here every month to uncover the best new wishlist-worthy picks worth adding to your must-have list.

January’s new-in luxury makeup offering is too good to miss. We’ve been spoiled for choice. Givenchy unveiled their limited edition Chinese New Year editions, YSL fused fashion and beauty with a designer clutch-bag inspired palette, and there have been enough luxe lipstick launches to lift our January blues. If you’re overdue for a beauty spree, this list is the place to start.

1. Givenchy Chinese New Year 2022 Editions

Best Luxury Makeup; Givenchy 2022 Chinese New Year Editions

Givenchy Chinese New Year editions are iconic. Beauty fans worldwide await their release and are always on tenterhooks (myself included) to find out what design the French Fashion house will choose. For 2022, the year of the tiger, the cult-favourite Le Rouge Lipstick and Prisme Libre Powder have a gorgeous red leather and silver heart design. They’re things of beauty – and almost too good to use if you ask me, but the formula and results will soon sway any beauty lover into opening them up. Prime Libre is a universal finishing powder; it contains four complementary shades that colour correct, brighten, and blur the complexion. The lipstick is also the best-selling Le Rouge, a matte formula in a rich burgundy-plum hue.

Tip: As this Prisme Libre is a limited edition, keep the lid and use it on your future powders. The lipstick is refillable, too, so choose your next shade from one of the many refills.

2. Dior Addict Lip Max Serum

Everything Dior launches is wishlist-worthy, in my opinion, but especially their makeup. That said, their latest Dior Addict Lip Maximiser Serum is special because even someone who doesn’t ‘do’ makeup will love it. It’s a lip-plumping serum that can be worn alone or under other lip formulas. There’s no colour; it plumps and volumises both instantly and over time, and if you’re prone to dry lips, it’ll be music to your… lips because it contains mallow flower and hyaluronic acid, a dreamy duo that hydrates for up to 24 hours. In true Dior fashion, the packaging is runway-ready, too, taking cues from the rest of the Dior Addict range with its soft pink hue and silver details. If there’s anything that encapsulates everyday luxury, it’s this.

Designer handbag fans will be drawn to this ten-shade eyeshadow palette (I was) – it takes inspiration from Yves Saint Laurent’s classic clutch bag with a gold YSL logo on the front and a quilted, faux leather design. It comes in 3 shades, but my favourite is Saharienne, which takes cues from the Moroccan desert with a medley of warm sunset tones in matte, shimmer and satin finishes.

Do you love bold colours but can’t master the application? The Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Drama Ink is one for your shopping list. It’s a semi-matte liquid lip, available in an array of shades that are super pigmented and comfortable. It has an innovative sponge tip that helps you master the perfect outline and finish. What’s better is that the formula lasts for eight hours without fading, which means even if you did think the flawless application was a coincidence, you only have to do it once!

5. YSL The Slim

If a liquid lipstick isn’t quite your thing, I have something for you, too. YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Slim is now available in new shades, The Daring Desires line-up offers a refreshing change from the nudes and pinks that tend to launch this time of year. They’re reds, but not as you’d expect – each one has a twist, ranging from fiery reds to brick reds. My favourite is 33 Orange Desire, a warm red with, yes, you guessed it, an orange shift. Similarly to Lancome, The Slim is also a firm choice for a lipstick novice, thanks to its bullet. The straight edges mean it doubles as a lip liner, allowing you to define your lip line and fill with a single product.
