Historically, Valentine’s Day has been a day for celebrating romantic relationships. But today, it’s so much more than that; it’s about celebrating all types of love, from romantic relationships to friendships to the love we have for ourselves. And as a huge fragrance fan, maybe it’s even a day to celebrate my love of perfume – although, perhaps that is taking it a step too far…(maybe).
But whether or not I need to try and rein in my love of perfume, there’s one thing that’s for sure: perfume is a great way to enjoy the season of love. The perfect Valentine’s Day fragrance really can make the day just that little bit extra special. So, I’ve rounded up four of the best fragrances to indulge in this Valentine’s Day; no matter whether you’re buying for a loved one or treating yourself, they’ll be a scent to suit in this line-up…
1. The Valentine’s Day Fragrance For Him
Why This Makes The Perfect Valentine’s Day Fragrance: New for 2022, The Scent Le Parfum by HUGO BOSS is a suave and sophisticated fragrance that I fell in love with the first time I spritzed it. To me, this ambery and warm scent is incredibly well balanced and, therefore, highly wearable. Set to be a definite crowd-pleaser, it’s one I’d feel confident buying for anyone who I know enjoys warm, rich fragrances lifted by spice. If you’re shopping for a special someone who enjoys the original The Scent, this is sure to impress.
What Does The Scent Le Parfum For Him Smell Like? Le Parfum is an intense reimagining of the iconic BOSS The Scent Eau de Toilette, honouring many of the original notes while taking its sensual side to new heights.
Le Parfum kicks off with a hot, energetic ginger note, partnered with exotic Maninka fruit (which is rumoured to be an aphrodisiac!) Together, these notes create a surprisingly fruity tone with a lingering heat. The Scent Le Parfum’s subtly powdery heart of iris softens the scent before the deep, rich leather base adds an addictive warmth to HUGO BOSS’s inviting fragrance.
2. The Valentine’s Day Fragrance For Her
Why This Makes The Perfect Valentine’s Day Fragrance: Another bold and intense reinterpretation of a fan-favourite, Le Parfum revamps the iconic ambery signature of BOSS The Scent for women by offering an even bolder flanker. As it builds on the original to offer a signature that’s somehow even more seductive than the original, it’s the perfect fragrance for when you want to pull out all the stops on Valentine’s Day.
What Does The Scent Le Parfum For Her Smell Like? This take on BOSS The Scent For Her starts off with a dash of pink peppercorn, but it’s not an overly hot or intense spice; instead, it creates more of a lively, excited tone that soon welcomes a honeyed orange blossom heart. Setting a passionate stage, the orange blossom that lies at the centre of this HUGO BOSS fragrance releases a rich, sweet white floral feel before the base blends warm vetiver with a delicate akigalawood note that’s reminiscent of patchouli and agarwood.
3. The Perfume For Your Galentine
Why This Makes The Perfect Galentine’s Day Fragrance: As a single gal on Valentine’s day, the true celebrations start for me the day before: 13th of February. Although Galentine’s day was first coined in a Parks and Recreation episode a mere 12 years ago, it’s popularity and cultural standing has skyrocketed. Now, it’s a widely-recognised day that gives us all the chance to celebrate the love we have for our closest pals.
Whether you’re treating a friend on Galentine’s or choosing a scent to wear to your coffee date with your day ones, Burberry Her Eau de Toilette is a fun, free-spirited new Burberry scent with an uplifting, sparkling quality that I think is perfect for the occasion.
What Does Burberry Her Smell Like? This pale-pistachio perfume is a pretty floral fragrance that carefully balances joyful fruity notes with an addictive and warm dry down. Burberry Her opens with a really crisp, fresh and sweet green pear note for a scent that is fun and carefree, just like the very best friendships. This joyful pear note is lifted by juicy strawberry, blackcurrant and a dash of pink peppercorn for a sparkly quality that reminds me of sipping chilled white wine in early summer. The sweet, honeysuckle heart is wrapped up in delicate lily of the valley, rose and peony petals, creating an aroma that is richly floral but still undeniably elegant. Finally, Her Eau de Toilette is softened by a warm, seductive musk and cedarwood base.
4. The Self-Love Signature
Why This Makes The Perfect Valentine’s Day Fragrance: Valentine’s is no longer just a time to celebrate romantic relationships; it’s also a time to celebrate yourself. As the Buddha’s well-known phrase explains: “You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” And if I had to pick a fragrance to epitomise this belief, it would be Marc Jacobs Perfect, so the Intense version is my personal favourite for Valentine’s (after all, why not go all out for the day itself?)
Inspired by Marc Jacobs’ mantra, ‘I’m perfect as I am’, the perfume line nods to Jacobs’ wrist tattoo, which reads ‘PERFECT’ in all caps. Why? In his own words, “I tattooed ‘perfect’ on my wrist to remind me that, when I’m looking at myself and wishing I could be stronger in this way or better at that thing, I can just say ‘no, I’m exactly how I need to be right now.’”
What Does Perfect Intense Smell Like? Perfect Intense Eau de Parfum takes the bright daffodil note of the original and adds a more opulent jasmine note in place of rhubarb. Fitting for Valentine’s, the heart is my favourite part of the fragrance; a cosy and nutty warmth nestles into your skin as lashings of toasted almonds add a soft nutty-gourmand nuance, lifted by a subtle sprinkling of pink pepper. The almost-edible tone continues into the base as a blanket of sesame oil, sandalwood and cashmeran add a lasting warmth and soft luxuriousness.
