Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Illicit Green Eau de Parfum Review

YSL Black Opium Illicit Green Review

In 1977, Yves Saint Laurent introduced the iconic Opium fragrance; a revolution in a bottle, the scent created a new idea of femininity – sultry, sexy and addictive. In 2014, the designer perfumer shocked us again by reinventing desire with Black Opium, a new contemporary scent that blurs traditional sexuality.

Today, YSL unveils its latest addition to the electrifying and vibrant Black Opium range. Be dazzled by the energising, loud and fresh Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Illicit Green Eau de Parfum

This Fragrance Smells Like…

Perfumer, Nathalie Lorson, and mixologist, Margot Lecarpentier, wanted to create a fresh, vibrant take on the iconic fragrance of Black Opium. Black Opium Illicit Green opens with a juicy, energising blend of pear accord and mandarin superessence, grounded by earthy and green fig leaf. The heart bursts with femininity, projecting a heady bouquet of orange blossom, jasmine grandiflorum and honeyed fig. Adventurous and daring, the EDP finishes with Black Opium’s iconic shot of black coffee, laced with a delicious vanilla bourbon note and joined by the woody tones of patchouli and cedar essence, mastering the balance between rich coffee and fresh greens.

What’s The Story Behind This Scent?

Inspired by the world of mixology, Illicit Green is the mocktail of the perfume world. It’s sure to prove an instant hit with the Black Opium woman, who is impertinent and brave, always living life to the fullest – and who better to embody these qualities than YSL muse and world-renowned actor, Zoë Kravitz. A declaration to vibrant and contemporary women everywhere, YSL Illicit Green is a mocktail that’s deviously addictive and bursting with energy.

You Will Love This If…

If you love Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opium signature, you’ll love this fresh, juicy take on the original. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a more summery, vibrant Black Opium scent for daytime wear.

Black Opium Eau de Parfum: A true fragrance icon, this scent blends sensuous vanilla with adrenaline-filled coffee for a seductive gourmand fragrance.

Black Opium Illicit Green: A zesty, fresher variation of the original scent, this energising fragrance blends green fruits and creamy fig whilst honouring the iconic coffee signature.

Black Opium Neon: Luminescent and bright, Neon is a fruity interpretation, infused with sparkling dragon fruit and vibrant florals.

Black Opium Extreme: Bold and exhilarating, this EDP turns up the volume with extra shots of coffee, ultra-rich white flowers and volumes of patchouli to deliver a long-lasting scent.

This Perfume Smells Similar To:

YSL Illicit Green reminds of the aroma of a fresh shot of coffee pouring out of an espresso machine; but this coffee isn’t your standard cup of joe – it’s expensive, as if the beans have been infused with a fruity and oaky quality.

Is Black Opium Illicit Green Unisex?

Yves Saint Laurent market Black Opium Illicit Green towards women; however, the dark coffee accord, woody finish and green start lean toward traditionally masculine notes. In my eyes, this EDP is perfect for anyone who loves a seductive gourmand fragrance, no matter their gender.

What’s The Longevity Like?

Long-lasting! I enjoyed YSL Illicit Green EDP for six or seven hours on my skin, which is impressive compared to the usual four to five hours for an Eau de Parfum.

What’s Special About The Bottle?

Dressed head to toe in black glitter, the flacon exudes luxury glamour. Featuring a window into its vibrant green centre, the bottle has an energising rock couture twist, while it still fits perfectly into any personal Black Opium collection.
