Beauty Advice From Our Mums

Escentual Perspective Beauty Lessons from Our Mums

When thinking about where most people get their beauty tips, celebrities, TikTok and models are the most obvious thought. But, after interviewing our Beauty Team, it seems the most influential beauty advice comes from our family, in particular, our mums. Here are the tips and tricks the team swear by and still rely on to this day!

Beauty advice given to you by your mum has the funny habit of sticking with you, helping to shape your outlook on beauty; whether you embrace your mum’s lessons or go in the opposite direction! I caught up with some members of the Escentual Beauty Team to hear all about the beauty products inspired by their mums…

Darcey: Be Bold

Beauty Advice from our Mums

What is the best beauty advice your mum has given you?

“My Mum has given me 3 pieces of beauty advice that have helped her stay looking young and are a part of her signature look:
1- She loves a bold lip (vibrant, hot pink is her go-to) and I have definitely inherited this love.
2- Moisturise everywhere, every night. My mum covers herself in La Roche-Posay Cicaplast to keep her skin looking youthful – it works!
3- Use a hot brush to style short hair to perfection. Now that I have cut my hair much shorter, I turned to my mum for advice. She recommends using a hot brush to curl the ends of your inwards, finishing with a blast of cool air to keep it in place.”

What beauty products remind you of your mum?

“Whenever I see a bright pink lipstick, I think of her. But, the smell that instantly grabs me is Versace Dylan Turquoise – my mum has recently switched to this fragrance (from another cult-classic) and inside of her handbag smells so strongly of the scent! Every time I would go and get her something from her bag, a wave of Versace would hit me, so now every time I smell it, I think of my mum.”

What beauty items did you used to steal from your mum?

“Of course, I used to steal her iconic pink lipsticks as these were the items she used to really splurge on. I always wanted to raid her perfume, but I never did as I didn’t want to get caught out by her smelling it on me.”

Keavy: Embrace Natural Beauty

Escentual Perspective Beauty Advice from Our Mums

What is the best beauty advice your mum has given you?

“My mum is a natural beauty and hardly wears makeup – apart from clear mascara. She definitely believes that less is more and always gave me the advice to embrace the natural look.”

What beauty products remind you of your mum?

“Anytime I see a clear mascara, it makes me feel nostalgic. Just like my mum, I love a multi-purpose product and she’d use the clear mascara for her lashes and eyebrows – seeing anything like that always brings my mum to my mind.”

What beauty items did you used to steal from your mum?

“I used to steal her clear mascara, which was basically invisible so my mum never noticed. However, leftover from her time in a band, my mum had a bright blue eyeliner that I loved to use! She did tell me off though…”

Kate: Comfort is Key

Beauty Advice from our Mums

What is the best beauty advice your mum has given you?

“Honestly, my mum isn’t that into beauty, generally, but she did pass on some words of wisdom. My mum just wants me to feel comfortable wearing what makes me happy and to be comfortable in my own skin, whatever makeup I do or don’t wear.”

What beauty products remind you of your mum?

“My mum never wears a lot of makeup, but when I was growing up, I remember that she had this small eyeshadow palette that she wore for work-dos or weddings. One of the shades was a gentle lilac/purple, which always suited her silver hair really nicely.”

What beauty items did you used to steal from your mum?

“One thing I would sometimes steal – although I like to think of it as ‘borrowing’ – is HUGO BOSS HUGO Deep Red. It was my Mum’s signature scent throughout my childhood and teen years, so I will admit that I snuck a few spritzes of it every now and then, especially before I started buying my own fragrance. I had to be careful, though, because it’s such a bold scent, so I could only steal it once in a blue moon for fear of being caught out! Whenever I used to wear it in my teens, I’d always feel comforted throughout the day because I’d be reminded of my mum.”
