Parfums de Marly Layton review

Whether you’re a loyal fan of Layton and you’ve stumbled across this page because you’ve spotted the shower gel in the image – yes, an all-new Layton scented body wash has just joined the collection, or you’ve heard the name ‘Layton Eau de Parfum’ on the lips of niche fragrance lovers, but you’re yet to try the scent for yourself, you’re in exactly the right place.

I’ll be filling you in on everything you need to know about this icon in the world of niche fragrance. Read on for my full Parfums de Marly Layton review…

What Does Layton Smell Like?

Layton is the type of fragrance that’s mastered that careful balance between seduction and sophistication. A rich and intense signature, it opens with the unique citrus-green tang of bergamot, which adds a sense of fresh vibrancy to the soothing aromatic notes of lavender and crisp green apple that grace the top.

The heart has an unexpected floral edge as a trio of jasmine, violet, and geranium add a fresh floral tone before they warm into a rich, intense and ultra-long-lasting base of vanilla, pink pepper, guaiac wood and patchouli. The deep, creamy blend of warm woods and seductive amber tones are enhanced by a splash of caramelised coffee.

What’s The Story Behind This Scent?

The master perfumer behind Parfums de Marly Layton, Hamid Merati-Kashani, imagined that the royal fountains of France had started to cascade with a bold aromatic fragrance while surrounded by racehorses. It’s an incredibly unique inspiration that stays true to Parfums de Marly’s love of France.

You Will Love This If…

If you’re a fan of niche fragrance, but you’ve never experienced the Layton perfume, then you’re missing out. Layton Eau de Parfum is one of Parfums de Marly’s most beloved fragrances, so it’s a great place to start if you’re new to the brand too.

This Perfume Smells Similar To:

The closest fragrance to Parfums de Marly Layton Eau de Parfum is, of course, Layton Exclusif. Exclusif has a slightly stronger, darker and spicier woody scent, but Layton’s floral and fresh touches make it slightly lighter.

Is Layton Unisex?

Layton is more traditionally masculine and is typically marketed as a fragrance for men; however, its floral touches and gourmand coffee-vanilla undertone mean that it often appeals to all genders. It’s loved widely here at Escentual.

What’s The Longevity Like?

Ever caught yourself wondering, ‘is Layton long-lasting?’ Well, like every Parfums de Marly fragrance I’ve had the pleasure of trying, I can confirm that Layton is incredibly long-lasting; one spritz on my wrists lasted a good ten to twelve hours on me, but some people say it lasts even longer than that!

What’s Special About The Bottle?

Layton Eau de Parfum features Parfums de Marly’s motif, which pays homage to the Chevaux de Marly – a pair of marble sculptures that were commissioned by Louis XV of France in 1743. The new-for-2022 scented shower gel is dressed in the same dark blue colour as the original Eau de Parfum and features a silver version of the brand’s emblem to nod to the heritage of Parfums de Marly.
