Miller Harris fans, I have exciting news to share with you: a gorgeous new fragrance has joined their collection: Myrica Muse. It’s their biggest launch of 2022 – and it’s good. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of it a few weeks before its official launch, and I instantly fell in love with it.
Keen to learn about it? Read on for my Miller Harris Myrica Muse review, where I’ll answer every question you have on this exciting new niche fragrance…
What Does Myrica Muse Smell Like?
The latest Miller Harris perfume to join the Colour Collection, Myrica Muse Eau de Parfum, is a delicious fruity-floral fragrance with hints of musk. Created by Master Perfumer Emilie Bouge, the Eau de Parfum bursts with crisp and juicy red fruits alongside a charming rose note that adds a retro feel.
To start with, it’s a sweet explosion of pink and orange: freshly picked strawberries blend with honeyed tangerine, lifted by a dash of pink pepper. The final note you’ll find at the top is bayberry – AKA ‘myrica’, the muse behind the fragrance – a type of fruit commonly found in China. The bayberry has a slightly peppery tone that adds a touch of warmth and energy to the top without an overpowering spiciness.
The heart centres around upcycled rose and patchouli, which unites to create a musky floral tone lifted by the valley’s airy lily, while the creaminess of velvety white jasmine seamlessly takes you into the base. Finally, a splash of confident but carefully balanced rum adds a layer of complexity to the heart. This warm syrupy note melts beautifully into the base as sweet, creamy vanilla blends with resinous benzoin, nuanced by a smooth trio of musk, amber and sandalwood.
What’s The Story Behind This Scent?
British Perfume House, Miller Harris, has joined forces with Emilie Bougé to capture the essence of the aperitif. Bougé has created a sparkling cocktail that wouldn’t feel out of place in the most sophisticated SoHo bar.
With singer, songwriter, music composer and model Cinderella Balthazar is the ‘muse’ behind Muse; the fragrance was inspired by the ‘Aperitif moment’. On the way to the party, the ‘muse’ stops at a cafe, buys a drink and pauses in the golden hour to read a page or two of their favourite book. The night out is calling, but they allow themselves to drink in this moment for just a little longer…
You Will Love This If…
You’ll love Myrica Muse by Miller Harris if you love niche fragrances that go that step further. In addition to being an olfactory masterpiece, the Myrica Muse perfume also prioritises sustainability, so it’s perfect for someone who prefers to opt for eco-conscious signatures.
Not only is it a vegan fragrance, but it also features two upcycled notes: rose and patchouli. These natural oils reduce wastage by using the leftover by-product of an initial extraction from a freshly harvested plant. There’s another benefit to this process, too: farmers have year-long income rather than only during harvest.
This Perfume Smells Similar To:
As the Myrice Muse settles on your skin, it changes quite a lot. When I first sprayed it, I pulled out the strawberry note; it reminded me of eating fresh strawberries on a warm summer’s day. But once it warms through, it becomes softer and feels gourmand to me.
The Eau de Parfum reminds me of Parfums de Marly Oriana – my personal favourite Parfums de Marly fragrance. They both have a warm, creamy vanilla richness to them – delicious!
Is Myrica Muse Unisex?
Admittedly, Miller Harris Myrica Muse leans more towards traditionally feminine fragrances due to its sweet, juicy blend of fruits and florals. However, as long as you love wearing it, that’s all that matters.
What’s The Longevity Like?
This is Miller Harris we’re talking about, so I was always going to have high hopes for Myrica Muse’s longevity. Thankfully, it didn’t disappoint; it lasted an impressive six hours on my skin.
What’s Special About The Bottle?
Fans of the brand can tell that Myrica Muse is a Miller Harris fragrance just from the bottle alone; it effortlessly slips into the Miller Harris Colour Collection. It’s got that classic soft matte bottle dressed in a chic bayberry-inspired red hue and finished with glistening gold touches.
Myrica Muse is vegan. It’s also free from phthalates, artificial colourants, parabens and formaldehyde, SLS and SLES.
