Remember, Remember – Bonfire Night Beauty

Do you love fireworks night as much as I do? The bangs, the sweet smell of smoke in the air, the sky full of glitter and sparkle… Of course, as a makeup addict, I will be doing my best to coordinate with the night sky when I head outside this evening to watch the show, with the glitziest items I can find in my makeup bag.

I will be bang on trend too (excuse the pun), as models were sent down the Autumn/Winter 2012 runways shimmering and sparkling in their droves. To celebrate fireworks night, I have picked out my favourite of the glitzy makeup trends for the season ahead, so read on – and get ready to sparkle!

1 – Sparkly gold leaf on eyes at Michael Van Der Ham
Delicately applying sheets of gold leaf to your eyes is neither practical nor cost effective, but it did look amazing at Michael Van Der Ham’s Autumn/Winter 2012 show…

To get the look, I recommend investing in a glitter-infused gold shadow, such as Stila Jewel Eye Shadow in Golden Topaz, £13. For high-impact, apply it past the crease of your lid and right up to brows. Let your eyes do the talking by keeping the rest of your makeup neutral and lips bare.

2 – Glitter lips at Kinder Aggugini
The high impact, ultra-sparkly lips at Kinder Aggugini gave the impression of models kissing pots of glitter. If you feel brave enough to pull it off, apply a sticky gloss to lips, before carefully applying a layer of Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigment, from £9.80. I find it easiest to apply with a finger, but use a small lip brush if you prefer. My pick is Nude Beam; a shimmering nude that will look stunning over the party season.

For a more wearable take on the trend, simply apply a glitter-infused gloss to lips (or over a bright lipstick base for a bolder look). I like Stila Sparkle Luxe Gloss in Dazzling, £15.

3 – Glitter tipped manicures at Badgley Mischka.
Leaving my favourite sparkly trend until last… Forget classic French manicures, as this season, the trendiest nails have sparkly metallic or glitter tips.

Pick a nude base and paint the entire nail. When dry, carefully paint the tip in a glittery or sparkly metallic polish – I love Guerlain Christmas Look Nail Polish in Altoum, £16.20.

Don’t forget to protect your manicure with a long-wearing top coat, which will seal the tips and prevent chipping. Dior Top Coat, £13.80, is glossy, quick-drying, and strong.
