If the old society traditions of the US are to be believed, you should never wear white after Labor Day. Now that those days of faded glamour are gone, white is considered a high fashion colour all year round, and a staple shade of the couturier and the fashion buyer alike. With the launch of his latest fragrance, Michael Kors well and truly lays that old adage to rest, insisting with quite some flair that we should wear white whenever the moment takes us.
Michael Kors White is a limited edition fragrance borne from Michael’s runway shows, the colour of a crisp shirt, a sheer skirt, or a structured tote. Layers and layers of gauzy and opaque material that creates a kaleidoscope of mesmerising non-colour. A transcendent shade that is somehow cool yet white hot, as essential to the world of fragrance as it to fashion.
Top: Violet Leaves, Freesia, Ylang, Dewy Greens
Heart: Gardenia, Jasmine Sambac, Tuberose, White Peony
Base: White Musk, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Amber
Michael Kors’ version of white is by no means sparse and minimalist. His is an expensive white, rich and unrestrained, cut from fine materials and accessorised with gold. Floral from top to bottom, it has a hint of verdant sweetness in the opening spray from freesia and a dewy green accord, but this scent is truly all about the tuberose. This version of tuberose is buttery, calling to mind the snow white leather of one of Michael’s signature handbags, trimmed with the musky creaminess of the base.
Though this core note is buttery, the overall aura of the White Eau de Parfum is actually airy and statuesque, a large bouquet of white freesia, gardenia, jasmine and tuberose blossoms in a heavy crystal vase. It’s an evocative fragrance; gorgeously fresh, then tempting and creamy, with an undulating, musky base that wears so sensuously on the skin.
