Summer Scent Memories

I can hardly believe that it’s September already! It’s depressing to think that the days are getting shorter, the mornings darker, and the weather gloomier. So this year, I’m determined to hold onto that happy summer feeling a little longer – and I’m doing it by surrounding myself in evocative summer fragrances. Want to join me? Wherever you’d rather be as we head into autumn, here’s my pick of uplifting summer scents…
If you wish you were on a DESERT ISLAND

Wish you were sprawled on the snow-white beach of a remote island? I recommend India Hicks’ Island Living Collection for Crabtree & Evelyn, which contains nourishing Coconut Oil, along with a fabulous Spider Lily fragrance. Top of my wish list is the Spider Lily Hand Wash, £13.45, which gives a hit of uplifting scent whenever you head to the bathroom. You’ll almost be able to feel the sand between your toes.
If you wish you were at a GARDEN PARTY

If spending time in the garden is one of the highlights of your summer, there’s no need to sacrifice your favourite floral fragrances as the weather turns cooler. Aromatherapy brand Tisserand is famous for its ability to bottle floral oils exactly as they smell in the garden or countryside – and their Wild Rose Pulse Point Perfume, £9.25, will take you straight back to the balmy days of summer.
If you wish you were in THE MEDITERRANEAN

If you’ve just returned from a holiday in the Mediterranean, you will be happily familiar with the scent of sun-ripened fruit on the breakfast table. Recreate that uplifting morning fragrance with Roger & Gallet’s evocative Bois D’Orange Refreshing Shower Gel, £11.50. The rich lathering gel contains notes of Mandarin, Basil, Orange Flower, Neroli, and Rosewood – and there are few better ways to start your day.
If you wish you were at THE SEASIDE

There’s nothing better than heading to the British seaside during the summer months – with the heady fragrance of salty sea breeze, fish and chips, and sweet candyfloss filling the air. If you are pining for a little sea air, why not treat yourself to a bottle of Lolita Lempicka L Perfumed Body Lotion, £29. The scent is evocative of the sea, with Orange, Everlasting Flower, and Precious Woods combining for a refreshing, nostalgic fragrance.
If you wish you were in THE COUNTRYSIDE

If you have been filling your summer weekends with trips to the countryside – whether at home or abroad – why not recreate the memories with an evocative fragranced candle? I’m a big fan of L’Occitane and their The Harvests Verbena Glass Candle, £17, takes me straight to the countryside, with its refreshing blend of green and citrus notes. Light the wick and the room will start filling with the tempting scent in a matter of minutes.
