Brighten Your Fragrance For Spring

Last month I talked a bit about freshening up your fragrance wardrobe for spring. For those last few still clinging desperately to their favourite winter scent (including me – Belle d’Opium I’m not ready to give you up just yet), I’ve put together a list of seasonal alternatives to some bestselling fragrances.

So whether you’re a fan of uber feminine violet, spicy pink pepper or heady patchouli, you can brighten up your scent without straying too far from your comfort zone…

Romantic Rose
Swap: Chloe Eau de Parfum for Chloe L’eau de Chloe Eau de Toilette
The intensely creamy floral notes in the original Chloe are replaced by a distillation of natural rose water in L’Eau de Chloe. It is a really refreshing take on a romantic rose scent, with added touches of grapefruit and peach that lend a sparkling sweetness. Easy to wear, mischievous and very chic, L’Eau de Chloe is a perfect springtime scent.

Powdery Violet
Swap: Van Cleef & Arpels Feerie Eau de Parfum for Annick Goutal La Violette Eau de Toilette
If you love the beautiful violet-infused scent of Feerie, you’ll adore Annick Goutal’s spring soliflore La Violette. The hypnotic candied violet of Feerie is swapped for a greener take on the precious bloom, with both the leaves and its petals featuring in the formulation. It is a violet romance in a brighter, fresher format.

Oriental Gardenia
Swap: YSL Belle d’Opium Eau de Parfum for Gucci Gorgeous Gardenia Eau de Toilette
Belle d’Opium is gorgeous during the colder months with its voluptuous notes of Casablanca Lily, Gardenia, Pepper and Patchouli. Swap this headiness for the brightness of Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia, another gardenia-and-patchouli fragrance with added fruits, exotic flora and a pinch of brown sugar.

Musky Ambrette Seeds
Swap: Ghost The Fragrance Eau de Toilette for Escada Especially Eau de Parfum
If you’ve got a soft spot for the musky rosiness of Ghost The Fragrance, try Escada Especially on for size. Each fragrance boasts central notes of ambrette seeds, rose and musk, but where Ghost is spicy and warm, Escada lightens the mood with added pear and ylang-ylang. A feel-good fragrance that reveals the romantic side of the rose.

Voluptuous Pink Pepper
Swap: Vivienne Westwood Naughty Alice for Emanuel Ungaro L’Amour Fou
Naughty Alice’s creamy, peppery, floral composition is sensual and feminine with a cheeky twist. Switch it up for spring with a lighter interpretation of a pink pepper-rose-violet structure; Emanuel Ungaro’s brand new release L’Amour Fou (Love Fool) is brighter and juicier with its added notes of pear and blackcurrant.

Sensual Patchouli
Swap: Miss Dior Eau de Parfum for Miss Dior Eau Fraiche Eau de Toilette
It’s hard to beat the luxurious fruitiness of Miss Dior (formerly Miss Dior Cherie), but the newly released Miss Dior Eau Fraiche is a close contender. Just as charming as its predecessor, Eau Fraiche blends fruity floral chypre notes to perfection, swapping sweetness for fresh citrus and patchouli. It’s a fresh, sun-filled fragrance that perfectly complements the Dior girl.
