The spotlight is on our #MyEscentual Fragrance Blind Trial line-up! Now that the results are out The Candy Perfume is sharing why they made it into our ‘Best Fragrances of 2019’.

Mon Guerlain came in 2017 as a new GUERLAIN fragrance for a modern generation. Possessing a long history of taking existing olfactory styles and refining them (Mitsouko was famously a peachy twist on Coty’s Chypre, for example), GUERLAIN took the popular powder-gourmand style of Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle and Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb, and gave them the GUERLAIN-treatment, twisting them into a luxurious, elegant and enveloping fragrance that wears like a dream. Like many, I became obsessed with it.

In the two years since Mon Guerlain launched, there have been four flankers; This means that if you’re a fan of this GUERLAIN, you now have five versions to choose from including the original Eau de Parfum, a lighter Eau de Toilette, the peony-centric Florale and the rosy Bloom of Rose. Oh and if those weren’t enough to satisfy your insatiable, Mon Guerlain cravings (which, let’s face it, they aren’t) there is a brand new Eau de Parfum Intense – a Mon Guerlain with the volume, brightness and contrast turned up full. Ohh Monsieur Guerlain, with these treats you are spoiling us!

How does Mon Guerlain Intense smell?

So what does this more intense version of Mon Guerlain smell like? Well, first things first, you will be pleased to know that it is immediately recognisable as Mon Guerlain; however, it feels much more full-bodied, and while the original was a silky trail of lavender, toffee and woods, this intense version feels like a more dense fabric shot in high definition. In the opening, it is less citrus fresh and more fruity with a distinct cherry facet that veers into the delicious territory of freshly rolled marzipan – yum.

Lavender was the key material at the core of Mon Guerlain, and in the Eau de Parfum Intense, it is the toasted sugar facets of lavender that take centre stage. The lavender, wrapped in waves of creamy vanilla, feels as if it is enveloped by tropical white petals, all hot and sweet, ripened by the sun. It’s delicious, but it doesn’t feel edible, nor does it tip into being sickly and full of calories – it is GUERLAIN after all, and they have nearly 200 years of perfume making expertise, all working to make Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Intense a gloriously refined and voluptuous fragrance, that blends the herbal facets of lavender with the plushness of vanilla. As it dries down, Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Intense diverges from the original Eau de Parfum. Instead of resting on a base of airy musks and smooth sandalwood, this Intense iteration dissolves into a bed of cherry-soaked amber. The effect is richer, longer-lasting, more exotic, warmer and just generally ‘more’. It’s a fitting finish to an indulgent fragrance that amplifies all that is good and great about Mon Guerlain.

Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Intense does precisely what it says on the tin, or, well, bottle. It’s a more intense version of the original that amplifies each of its key facets – the caramel, the lavender, the marzipan, the soft woods. It smells just like Mon Guerlain but bigger. The amplified sense of gourmand makes this the most delicious GUERLAIN yet, which is saying something because the house is often referred to as the pastry chef of fragrance. Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum Intense is Mon Guerlain pulled and stretched to become larger, more vivid and ultimately, more GUERLAIN.
