Hollister Canyon Escape for Her opens with a burst of sweet blood orange and honeyed mandarin, which are combined with the freshness of cactus water. This is immediately followed by the heart of the fragrance, which provides a feeling of warmth from the solar accord and desert rose; they transport you to a desert escape as they mingle with an oris fusion accord and orange blossom. Finally, the dry down of cedarwood, sandalwood and musk warms on the skin as it recalls Hollister’s Californian beachy brand heritage.

To me, the sunny and woody notes really stand out, particularly the sandalwood accord. Although this fragrance was created with road trips through the desert and American west coast in mind, there’s still something pleasantly familiar with the fragrance even if you haven’t visited these destinations. It personally reminds me of blissful summer days on the beach when the sun warms your skin and you feel utterly at peace.
Is Hollister Canyon Escape for Her Unisex?
This fragrance is marketed as a fragrance for women, which is reflected in the choice of traditionally feminine floral heart notes – desert rose and orange blossom. However, its woody, musky dry down balances out the sweetness, so this scent could be universally appealing. Reflective of its Eau de Parfum concentration, this fragrance lasted around 4 to 5 hours for me.

The ridged bottle design is inspired by a unique rock formation, recalling the theme of a carefree escape through Californian canyons with friends. The subtle soft pink colour reminds me of the beautiful cactus flowers you may stumble across in the desert and the light wooden lid reflects the sandalwood base notes perfectly, creating a beachy, driftwood-inspired feel. The addition of the embossed Hollister logo adds a nod to the well-known brand.
