‘What blush colour is right for me?’ is up there with one of the top blush-related questions on Google. It returns more than 63 million search results. Interest in blush is rising, too; blush sales are up 5% versus this time last year, and viral blush trends on Tik Tok are reigniting our love affair with colour on our cheeks.
If you, like many others, are clueless when it comes to choosing the best shade for your skin tone, then I can help. I’ve rounded up the best blushes for medium skin with warm undertones.
What Blusher Shades Are Best For Medium Skin?
You can wear whatever blush shade you like – only you make the rules on that. But, some hues will undoubtedly compliment your complexion better.
If you have medium skin with warm (yellow) undertones and don’t want to buy the ‘wrong’ colour blush then opt for one of the below:
Don’t forget: your skin type matters, too. Oily skin types may prefer a matte powder finish, whereas dry skin types may enjoy gel or cream textures.
1. The Red-Brown Powder Blush
Red blush looks great on all skin tones. It creates the effect of a healthy, youthful complexion. You can choose to go as bold or pared-back as you like, too because there’s a wide selection of both bright and muted reds on the market. The most important things to note with red blush is first not overdoing it, and secondly, the placement; concentrate on the apples of your cheek. If you have high cheekbones, you can go a little lower.
Why you’ll love the bareMinerals Blonzer in Kiss of Copper:
Kiss of Copper is a red-brown. It’s, in my opinion, an easy way to wear red blush. It also looks incredible on medium skin with warm undertones. What’s unique about this blush is that it’s not just a blush; it’s a bronzer, too. I think this blush-bronzer hybrid is number #1 if you want to create a sun-kissed effect (dust a little on your nose, too), plus its pearlescent finish gives skin a gorgeous glow.
2. The Coral/Peach Powder Blush
Peach blush shades will enhance all skin tones’ natural flush. Anyone can wear it, but I think it looks best on a face with a warm undertone. It’s worth remembering, though, that orange hues can often make medium skin look pale, so pair a peachy shade with a good dusting of bronzer.
Why you’ll love the GIVENCHY Prisme Libre Blush in Voile Corail:
GIVENCHY Prisme Libre Blush in Voile Corail is a coral-peach blush that you can customise. It has four shades that complement each other. The orange and coral tones mix to create a hue that imparts a healthy glow. Another special quality of the Prisme Libre Blush is the loose pigments; they’re organic, breathable, stay put for 12 hours, and catch and diffuse light on your face.
3. The Rosy Pink Liquid Blush
Skin with warm/yellow undertones can look sallow. A great way to counteract this is with a cool rose-pink blush. But be careful; rose hues can sometimes look muddy if the pigment lacks, so find one with good depth, so it doesn’t wash you out.
Why you’ll love the Yves Saint Laurent Baby Doll Kiss & Blush – Lips & Cheeks Duo in 18 – Rose Provocant:
As a rule of thumb, medium skin tones should avoid blush that is lighter than their face. Because of this, many pinks are out. A rose-pink, however, is the perfect alternative. 18 Rose Provocant by YSL is a vivid rose hue with a slight coral shift. As an added bonus it’s a liquid blush with a built-in applicator that doubles as a lipstick.
4. The Plum Powder Blush
A great way to choose blush in general is to look for a colour two shades darker than your lips. For many people, this can be a mauve-plum. And if you have a yellow undertone you’re in luck as purple is very complimentary. Plum is a daring step for many, but it’s a risk worth taking. The purple blush trend is taking off on Tik Tok for a reason!
Why you’ll love the Yves Saint Laurent Couture Blush in Plum Smoking:
Plum Smoking is a bold plum that’s highly pigmented (use a light hand, tap off any excess and a fluffy brush). It’s an ideal pick for the winter months; it’s cool-toned but not too much and is on the more pared-back spectrum of purple.
