If you’re noticing the first signs of ageing, this Treatment Essence is perfect for you. It’s made for someone in their 30s (all skin types) who leads a busy lifestyle and wants to keep their skin looking hydrated, glowing and youthful. After trying it, I think someone who craves more hydration from their skincare routine will benefit from its moisturising formula.
What Does It Do?
First and foremost, this treatment essence is the second step in your Multi-Active routine (after cleansing). It’s the prep step if you will, and it’ll even improve the results of the skincare you apply after it (serum and moisturiser). As for what results you can expect, it’ll refresh your complexion with a big boost of moisture, which in turn will improve your skin’s glow and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
How Does It Do It?
It energises and hydrates skin. The treatment essence contains 97% natural-origin ingredients, including a RED² + H.A² complex. Within the complex are moisturising red jania and revitalising red ginseng to renew the complexion, while hyaluronic acid helps skin lock in moisture for 8 hours. Radiance-boosting teasel extract and tone-evening meadowsweet extract help to minimise the appearance of pores and imperfections.
What Does It Smell And Feel Like?
It has a fresh, watery texture that refreshes the skin. Clarins collaborated with a Japanese perfume house with expertise in neurosciences (Takasago) on the formula’s mood-enhancing scent. Clarins Laboratories incorporated relaxing molecules and created exclusive olfactory accords in the Multi-Active range that are clinically proven to reduce stress by 20%.
Best Place and Time To Use It?
Apply to clean, dry skin morning and night after cleansing. Add a few drops of the essence onto the palms of your hands. Then, gently pat it onto the face, working outwards from the centre of your face before working upwards from the base of the neck. Take care to avoid the delicate eye area.

The Multi-Active Treatment Essence comes in a 200ml light pink plastic bottle with a twist-top lid. It doesn’t have a pump or spray. Instead, it has a small hole in its top so that you can tip out the formula quickly and easily.

The essence comes in a carton printed on paper from sustainably managed forests, and Clarins’ eco-designed bottle uses a minimum of 25% recycled plastic.
My Overall Experience
I love essences. My skin always needs the extra hydration, so they’re a must-have in my routine. When it comes to the Multi-Active Treatment Essence, I was intrigued. I am the target customer. I’m 30, always stressed (trying my best not to be) and keen to keep signs of ageing at bay. Whenever I used it, my skin felt hydrated and comfortable and looked plump and glowy. I forgot to use it a few times, and my skin missed it. It felt tighter, and the rest of my skincare didn’t go on as nicely. More than that, my makeup looked better when I used it. My foundation sat nicer, and dare I say it, it lasted better. The treatment essence didn’t give me any shocking results, but it did give my skin a beautiful boost that had a knock-on effect on the rest of my beauty regime.
