Summer Colour Trends

What are your favourite summer colours? Pops of vivid brights? Washes of milkshake pastels? Or something darker to stand out from the crowd?

If you need a little inspiration, I have rounded up a few of my favourite catwalk-inspired colour trends for high summer and picked products to compliment each look.

BRIGHT PINK, ORANGE AND RED
Worn on: Lips
As seen at:Topshop Unique, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Jonathan Saunders.

(L-R) Clarins Gloss Appeal in Crystal, Daniel Sandler Micro-Bubble Lipstick in Red, Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Backstage Pink

Whether it’s pillar-box red, vibrant orange, or shocking pink, there’s only one way to wear your pout this season; loud and proud. The finish can be glossy or matte – I personally prefer a little shine, so it’s worth investing in a clear gloss, such as Clarins Gloss Appeal in Crystal, £12. For colour, I love Daniel Sandler Micro-Bubble Lipstick in Red, £13.25 and Dior Addict High Shine in Backstage Pink, £19.91.

COLOURED GLITTER
Worn on: Eyes and nails
As seen at: Giles Deacon and Louis Vuitton

(L-R) Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigment, Nailtiques Nail Lacquer with Protein in Tokyo and Vegas

Usually reserved for the festive season, it’s refreshing and fun to discover glitter making an appearance in the summer months. This season, it needs to be colourful to be bang on trend – and worn either on the nails or around the eyes (be daring, taking the colour right up to your brow bone). Treat yourself to Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigments, £14 each (use a balm on lids before applying so that it sticks) or Nailtiques Nail Lacquer with Protein in Vegas or Tokyo, £10.55 each.

BRONZE
Worn on: Complexion
As seen at: Balmain, Ralph Lauren, and Basso & Brooke.

(L-R) Nuxe Gentle Exfoliant Doux Aux 3 Roses, Stila One Step Bronze

Forget pale and interesting – this summer, you need to have a bronzer close to hand for a 24-7 sun-kissed glow. Your complexion needs to be perfect, so use a gentle exfoliating scrub to keep the surface of skin smooth and blemish-free, such as Nuxe Gentle Exfoliant Doux aux 3 Roses, £20.16. For the bronzer itself, I’m a big fan of Stila’s new One Step Bronze ,£24, with its suspended triple-swirled helix of bronzing pigments.

SOFT PASTELS
Worn on: Eyes
Seen at: Loewe, Derek Lam, and Alberta Ferretti.

(L-R) Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Matt SPF 15 Foundation, Clarins Neo Pastels Palette

If you love soft pastel colours, you are in for a treat, as this summer, a soft wash of pastel shadow across lids is one of the season’s hottest trends. The trick to this trend is to keep the rest of your makeup as natural as possible, so the only other tool you’ll need is a matte-finish foundation, such as bareMinerals Matte SPF15 Foundation, £20.40. For the shadow, I have fallen head over heels for Clarins Neo Pastels Eye Colour & Liner Palette, £23.99, which allows you to pick a different shade every day.
