“Fashion and fragrance collide in Thomas, AKA The Candy Perfume Boy’s latest Escentual series: Scent Your Style. Whether you’re always head to toe in black or adore colour, he’s found a scent for your style.”
When we smell fragrances, we are inspired to think of many things that are more than just the notes within. We smell in textures and imagine the fabrics perfumes remind us off. We also think of memories, people, places and sounds – things in real life that we can tie to the abstract concept we are smelling. One of the most obvious ways we experience fragrance is through colour, whether that be vivid reds or vibrant pinks, or delicate greys or soft beiges. Today we’re talking about those fragrances that evoke the colour white.
1. The White Suede Jacket
To me, Narciso is evocative of a huge white space. It is an expansive fragrance that makes you feel as if you are stood at the centre of a room painted in pure white. The space is cool and airy, and in the centre, a giant gardenia fashioned from white silk looms weightlessly. Narciso is a creamy white floral and musk fragrance that feels like an experience or an emotion. To wear Narciso is to step into that blank room and admire the overwhelming beauty within.
2. The White Lace Dress
In perfumery white = white flowers, and if we’re talking white florals, we might as well talk about the queen: Honour Woman by Amouage. Very rarely do I describe a fragrance as being heartbreakingly beautiful, but Honour Woman could shatter even the stoniest of hearts. There is a melange of white florals here: tuberose, jasmine, gardenia and lily of the valley, each of which comes together to paint, in wide brush strokes, the image of a woman in shades of ivory, beige and white. It’s stunning.
3. The White Satin Cami
If the other fragrances in this list evoke pure white, Meteorites is reminiscent of finely milled white powder with a glint of iridescence. It’s a pearlescent fragrance that blends apple, rose, violet and white musk to create something unashamedly cosmetic in feel. Meteorites sparkles and shimmers just like a perfectly applied cheek highlight. What’s not to love about that?
4. The White Shirt
If other fragrances on this list capture a sense of brilliant white, Colonia Pura makes me think of shades of off-white. Created as a modern subversion of the classic eau de cologne, Colonia Pura is powered by musks, blending with citrus, flowers and woods to create an experience that feels like a fast, bubbling stream of water with flashes of grey pebbles. Colonia Pura is chic, sophisticated and an unusual way to smell the colour white.
