The Challenge

We asked Welsh Hairdresser and salon owner Josh Lee to spend his 10,000 Pretty Pennies (£100) on the best hair care products for rolling good hair days.

1. Clarifying Shampoo

Bumble and bumble Sunday Shampoo

Purifying Shampoo: Bumble and bumble Sunday Shampoo 250mlWashing your hair is the first step in your haircare routine and arguably the most important. Make sure you have a good purifying shampoo that cleanses your hair thoroughly – it’ll ensure the best base for styling. One of my favourites is the Bumble and bumble Sunday Shampoo. It’s an iconic weekly shampoo treatment that detoxes every hair strand, removing product residue, hard water minerals, and pollutants.

2. Nourishing Hair Mask

Hydrating Hair Mask: Kiehl's Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Mask 250ml

From heat to styling, your hair goes through a lot, so giving it a pamper every once in a while is essential. Once a week, treat your tresses to a hair mask that suits your hair’s needs (there are so many incredible ones to choose from these days). If your hair is dry, my go-to is Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil; comb it through and leave it on for 3-5 minutes; if you’re not in a rush, leave it on while you sleep. Rinse and condition – don’t shampoo it out.

3. Hydrating Shampoo

Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing Smoothing Shampoo

Moisturising Shampoo: Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing Smoothing ShampooYou should use a hydrating formula for 90% of your weekly shampoos. Things like pollution and heat styling can make our hair dry and, in turn, frizzy and dull-looking, so having a nourishing shampoo in your arsenal will pay off. A fail-safe choice is Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing Smoothing Shampoo; this contains natural protein hydrolyzed elastin to replenish and smooth your hair, so it looks glossy and feels healthy.

4. Heat Protection Spray

Phyto Phytokeratine Repairing Heat Protecting Spray

Heat Protection Spray; Phyto Phytokeratine Repairing Heat Protecting Spray 150mlAlways use heat protection on your hair; it creates a barrier between your locks and the styling tool to keep your hair healthy. The Phytokeratine Repairing Spray is one of my top recommendations; it contains keratin and grape extract, which protect your hair and repair any existing damage.

5. Smoothing Hair Oil

Sachajuan Intensive Hair Oil

Hair oil; Sachajuan Intensive Hair Oil 50mlRegularly using hair oil on the mid-lengths and ends of your hair can help prevent split ends and breakage. It also gives hair a gorgeous healthy shine! A favourite of mine is the Sachajuan hair oil; it’s incredibly lightweight in the hair despite its nourishing formula that contains a protein blend of sea buckthorn and sunflower seed oils, which strengthen and replenish.
