Tom Ford Costa Azzurra Eau de Parfum Review

Tom Ford Costa Azzurra Eau de Parfum review

Costa Azzurra Eau de Parfum was originally part of Tom Ford’s Private Blends. Now, it’s part of the Signature Collection. The bottle looks completely different, and the scent has changed slightly. It’s technically still a citrus-fougere fragrance, which means it smells lemony, fern-like and warm. Fougere’s are traditionally masculine, but after testing and researching this scent, this is an Eau de Parfum that all genders can wear.

What is a Fougere Fragrance?

Costa Azzurra Smells Like…

My Thoughts:

There’s no denying Costa Azzurra EDP smells energising and fresh. My first impressions? I can picture soap shavings, shaving foam, lavender fields, and a barber shops’ clean-cut smell. I tend to avoid these scents 90% of the year due to my love for bold, dark perfumes. However, when it’s hot and humid, I could see myself turning to this as it’s not your average fougere; it smells and feels expensive.

As hard as it is to describe, the freshness of this scent is almost three-dimensional. It has a mild menthol-breeziness that you can smell you feel. When I close my eyes, I can picture a sun-soaked beach, dotted with washed-up driftwood and surrounding swaying leafy trees – very clever, Mr Ford.

What Tom Ford Says:

Costa Azzurra evokes the sensual ease of a Mediterranean escape, merging sea air freshness with the warmth of the sun on the body. A transportive dream…

Key Perfume Notes: Juniper Berry, Myrtle Oil, Lemon, Cypress Oil, Cistus Absolute and Oakwood.

What’s The Difference Between Costa Azzurra and Costa Azzurra Parfum?

On paper, Costa Azzurra and Costa Azzurra Parfum are classed as citrus-fougere fragrances, but they’re different, inside and out.

Costa Azzurra EDP has a transparent glass bottle that looks gold, but Costa Azzurra Parfum has an opaque metallic gold bottle. The fragrances are similar but different. Costa Azzurra original feels fresher and lighter to wear; it has more herbaceous tones that almost smell like a high-end mojito. In contrast, the warm addition of amber gives the Parfum extra weight and longevity.

What’s The Story Behind This Scent?

Costa Azzurra is one of Mr Ford’s favourite places. To create this scent, he took cues from shimmering turquoise seas, salty skin, and flourishing ferns. When you spray it and close your eyes, it’s hard not to picture being on a sun lounger, not knowing what date or time it is – one can dream.

Is Costa Azzurra For Summer?

Costa Azzurra is a holiday in a bottle. It feels cool, clean and easy to wear. The aromatic, herby notes make this an excellent match for warm weather, but you can wear it all year round; it all depends on your mood and preference.

You Will Love This If…

  1. You want to try Tom Ford without it being too overpowering.
  2. You’re looking for something fresh but still unique.

After wearing Costa Azzurra and Costa Azzura Parfum, I’m drawn to the parfum more as I prefer bolder, stronger scents. If you’re already a fan of Costa Azzurra EPD, however, you may want to try Beau de Jour or Grey Vetiver as these are also on the lighter end of the Tom Ford fresh scale. 1 being ultra-fresh and 10 being warm, I would say Costa Azzurra is a solid 2 for freshness. I would put Noir Extreme Parfum and Black Orchid Parfum at 10.

This Perfume Smells Similar To:

• Houbigant Fougere Royale: Similar cool, crisp herby notes with a woody warmth.

• DIOR Sauvage: Similar freshness with lingering woody tones.

Is Costa Azzurra Unisex?

In my opinion, yes. However, I think the Costa Azzurra original has a more traditionally masculine side as it doesn’t have the warmth of amber like the Parfum. It has greener herby facets.

What’s The Longevity Like?

I  gave it a good spritz in the morning, and on my skin, it lasted around 4 hours and 6 hours on my hair. Longevity is subjective and based on your skin and environment. Tom Ford usually says each Eau de Parfum should last up to 6 hours, which was true for me.

What’s Special About The Bottle?

Costa Azzurra Parfum has one of the most striking bottles in the Signature Collection. The art-deco detail looks expensive, which is incredible as the glass is transparent, so the scent’s colour makes it look so decadent. You’ll see the fine art deco lines and the TF logo on the outer carton when you get the box. Then you open it and see the exact TF logo engraved on the cap. The bottle feels heavy, which we know is a sign of luxury. The art deco lines are imprinted on the cap full bottle; the design is the epitome of 70s glamour, which was part of the inspiration for this collection.

Can you recycle the perfume?

✔️ You can recycle the box.
✔️ You can recycle the glass bottle.
✖️ The spray pump can’t be recycled – it needs to be separated from the glass bottle.
